High-Performance Building for Carpenters 
September 1 - October 8, 1pm-5pm EST | $3,000  

This course teaches carpenters how to apply fundamental building skills to high-performance construction projects. Throughout the 6-week course, students will learn high-performance essentials through building science lessons and hands-on practice with mock-up assemblies.

Certified Passive House Consultant CPHC® Training

Phius (Passive House Institute US) established the CPHC program in 2008 to distinguish accomplished passive building professionals in the marketplace. Phius, the leading North American passive building training provider, has trained more than 3000 professionals to date.

LEED for MEP Engineers

August 9th, 10am-12pm EST | $175

This course provides an overview of the LEED Rating system’s energy, indoor environmental quality and plumbing credits. It drills down into what building engineers need to know to optimize LEED certification.

Passive House 101: An Introduction to Passive Buildings

August 9th, 3pm-5pm EST | $175

In this course, we will provide an overview of the Passive House building standard including certification metrics, common design elements, and net-zero potential, as well as the impacts Passive House has on carbon and health.

Passive House 201: Technical Aspects of Design & Construction

August 16th, 3pm-5pm EST | $175 

This session will take a deeper look into common design & construction strategies for achieving the Passive House standard.

Buildings and Carbon

September 13th, 1pm-5pm EST | $350 

This course will focus on climate impacts associated with carbon emissions from the built environment. It will emphasize the importance of goal setting and taking actions to manage building-related carbon emissions throughout a building’s life cycle.

Building Science Fundamentals

September 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd 1pm-5pm EST | $695 

Building Science Fundamentals is a seminar that teaches the basic knowledge needed to design and build durable, energy-efficient, affordable, and healthy buildings.

Submit Public Comment for DOER Draft Building Code by August 12

DOER released draft code language for its Stretch Energy Code and Specialized Municipal Opt-in Code. The public comment period on the new draft code language is open until 5pm on August 12. Written comments can be submitted to stretchcode@mass.gov with the subject line “Building Code Comments.”

There is one last DOER hearing to receive verbal feedback:

PROJECT SPOTLIGHTS

WELL V2 PILOT PLATINUM / LEED BD+C GOLD

Project SagaMORE is a 30,000 SF expansion of EMD Serono's Research Institute in Billerica, Massachusetts. It is designed to achieve a 42% water use reduction, 30% energy cost reduction, and 82% reduction in construction waste. Both the existing office and annex have jointly achieved  WELL CertificationTM Gold certification for New Construction. The EMD facility establishes many records, including being the 1st New & Existing Building WELL Certified Gold project in the US.

LEED BD+C GOLD

Klarman Hall in Cornell University was recently certified for LEED BD+C Gold. The project  includes extensive green roof systems to reduce heating and cooling needs; a heat-recovery unit to recapture energy from the return air system in offices; variable-air-volume technology to provide energy-efficient ventilation, and chilled beams to provide energy-efficient heating and cooling to offices. Combined, the Klarman Hall and Human Ecology Building photovoltaic arrays offset more than 22 percent of the total energy used by Klarman Hall, while the rainwater harvesting system reduces potable water usage by approximately 70 percent.

Administrative Assistant | Built Environment Plus

The Administrative Assistant is a full-time position responsible for supporting Built Environment Plus (BE+) in achieving its mission of driving sustainable and regenerative design, construction, and operations of the built environment. They will work primarily with the Education Director. The role is instrumental in enabling BE+ to provide quality educational programming and exceptional customer support while keeping us organized and efficient.

Internships | Built Environment Plus

Do you want to help make every building in the world (at least in Mass.) a green building? Would you like to participate on the inside of the movement with us at Built Environment Plus. Consider participating in an internship with BE+! 

Fall and Spring internships are up to 20 hours a week for 10 weeks, for a total of 200 hours. Summer internships are up to 40 hours a week for 12 weeks, for a total of 480 hours. All internships are currently remote.

Lead Mechanical Engineer | 
Integrated Project Services

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will oversee the entire mechanical design process and assist as a technical expert on specialized design projects within the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, and Medical Device industries. The Lead Mechanical Engineer may work on several concurrent projects and is recognized as a Subject Matter Expert within the Mechanical Engineering Discipline. ICYMI, IPS is still hiring a Sustainability Project Manager.
