Barbados and Belize participate in Bilateral Cooperation of the RIAL/OAS
From July 19 to 21, a virtual bilateral cooperation exchange took place between Belize and Barbados on occupational safety and health, considering the upcoming approval of an OSH Bill in Belize. During three days, personnel from the Ministry of Labor of Belize received complete and comprehensive advice from the Ministry of Labor of Barbados on the planning and management of inspections from an OSH perspective. The training included aspects such as the management and implementation of an inspection plan, types of risks at work, tools for adequate inspection, types of inspections by sector, management of chemical residues, conducting investigations, and the role of social actors. As a second component, Barbados shared relevant information for the implementation of the law, such as graphic materials to raise awareness among the population and manuals, among others.
This activity was selected within the framework of the 13th RIAL/OAS Open Call in 2020 but had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
RIAL/GENDER and CIM invite you to participate in free MOOCs on gender
As part of the actions carried out by RIAL/GENDER and the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), officials from the Ministries of Labor in the region are invited to enroll and complete two short self-directed courses (MOOC) that will allow them to broaden their knowledge of gender theories and analysis: “Introduction to Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+)” and “Introduction and basic concepts on gender, diversity and human rights”. All officers interested in taking these courses, please let us know at trabajo@oas.org
The Ministers of Labor and Employment of the BRICS commit to creating green jobs
The meeting between the BRICS Ministers, which took place on July 14 in Beijing (China), stressed the further deterioration of the labor markets over the course of 2022. This deterioration—caused by current and future challenges of climate change, technological transition and demographic shifts—demands now more than ever a "human-centered approach to shape the future of work". As a result, the Ministers committed to the promotion of green jobs for sustainable development, developing skills for a resilient recovery, and protecting workers' rights in the face of digitization.
