Hunter and Dalton!

More on the 2019 picture ahead but for now, I'm never going fluke fishing again! Yesterday we had all of three keeper fluke at Noman's Island and the prospects for this fishery in Massachusetts are grim unless you are fishing Nantucket Shoals (and I ain't going there!).
We took an offshore route headed home and picked a bunch of sea bass and a few nice cod that we were not allowed to keep (it is "open" again as of today). I saw what looked like a cobia follow a hooked sea bass to the boat in the beautiful, clear water and another boat was shark fishing pretty much on top of one of my sea bass spots.
Shaina and her trophy sea bass!

On Thursday's open boat trip I had an interesting bunch of "mostly first-timers" (except for Tom and Ralph). There was Josh and Armin from MFCC and then Gary V. with daughter Shaina who stole the show for the day with the biggest sea bass I've seen in a few years (see above-the pictures don't do justice).
The thing taped out at a little over 25 inches and I told her that a guy on my boat won the Massachusetts Saltwater Derby "Catch and Release" Division with a 24 incher last year. "Let it go" she said!
After a few very quick pictures, that is what we did and the big biscuit swam away happy and healthy.

On Friday there was Matt S. the guitar builder with his friends out for sea bass limits by 930, then we went for bluefish and had quite a bit of activity before we went into the river for stripers, taking a slot.

Saturday was with Carlos and friends who found a new spot loaded with sea bass for a pretty quick limit of jumbos before hitting the river for a few nice slot bass.

So what is up with that picture from 2019??? Hunter, my baby brother, is going to visit next week and he and Dalton love to fish together (for some reason). The picture is to remind them to play nice on the boat...

That brings us to the August Open Boat schedule and as today raises the black fish limit from one to 3/person per day, I will have green crabs on all inshore trips for those that want to give it a shot. A thing we do with fishing sea bass is to put a crab bait on the bottom hook/clam on top so we have the best of both worlds.

All Tuesdays will be Coxes Ledge Trips (Cod, Sea Bass, Mahi, Monsta Scup, Flounder, etc.) , 530-am-1230pm at $200/person. There are spots available  on all Tuesdays (except tomorrow).

All Thursdays are "Regular Inshore Open Boat" (Sea Bass, Bluefish, Stripers, Blackfish, Bonito, etc.) , 7am-noon at $150/person. There are currently spots available on all Thursdays.

The only weekend open boat for August is 08/28. It is a Coxes Ledge Trip (530-1230, $200) and there are 3 spots available.

As always, please be sure to include your name and phone # when scheduling.
