Back-to-school season is approaching. Be on the lookout as we begin the start of the school year for back-to-school information and resources on the district website. Highlights from the graduating class of 2022

The Class of 2022 was a dedicated group of students! Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and impacts of wildfires, ice storms, distance learning, hybrid learning and other obstacles, more than 2,800 students graduated in 2022.

• More than $59 million in scholarships were earned.
• More than 100 students earned the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy, distinguishing them as global learners and recognizing them as proficient and effective in one or more languages other than English.
• More than 1,500 graduates participated in Career and Technical Education courses during high school, preparing them for industry skills for careers in their futures.
• More than 1,000 graduates took advance placement or international baccalaureate courses during high school, the most rigorous courses offered in our schools.

Arnav Mohindra is one of 26 Oregon students in the Class of 2022 to receive the top scholarship of $2,500 from the National Merit Scholarship Organization. Arnav will be attending Washington University in St. Louis this fall and will pursue a career in medicine. He is interested in fusing science and humanities to help make people better, which was inspired by his peers and their struggles with mental health.

McKay High’s basic nursing students had a successful year

A group of 16 students had the highest class average scores in the history of McKay’s CTE Nursing Assistant Program. Each of the students moved on to clinicals with an opportunity to test with the Oregon State Board of Nursing. The program creates strong partnerships between school and community, allowing students to be job-ready upon graduating.

SKPS Migrant Education Summer Program

This summer, more than 600 students and their families celebrated the end of the 2022 Migrant Education Summer Program with the tradition “Clausura.” The "Clausura" is a program of student performances of songs and dances they have learned throughout the program. 

The Title 1-C/Migrant Education Program is a federal program designed to provide high-quality and comprehensive educational programs and services during the regular school year as well as during summer programming to children of essential working families who migrate to find work in the agricultural, forestry and fishing industries.

The Migrant Education Program strives to address the unique educational needs of migratory children who often face the challenges of interrupted educational experiences due to the nature of family employment.

Salem-Keizer Unified Summer Program

The Salem-Keizer Unified Summer Program, which first began in 2021, brings together more than 300 students with and without disabilities from around the district. Unified programs this summer feature fun games and activities, such as noodle tag, volleyball, soccer, basketball, art activities and more.

Salem-Keizer early education programs are available

Children in the Salem-Keizer community have an opportunity to enroll in early childhood education programs to support their foundational learning during the 2022-23 school year. Salem-Keizer Public Schools currently has openings available for enrollment in three early childhood programs to serve children three and four years of age.
