Staff Picks

We love to share what we’ve been reading/watching/listening to/exploring! Here are Barbara’s recommendations! (Note: Click on the title to get to our catalog record for the item.)

Sing to the Colors: A Writer Explores Two Centuries of the University of Michigan by James Tobin

Say the words “history book” and I’ll bet it conjures (and you may not be alone in this) something dull and dry. SO NOT the case with this one! Tobin has been writing interesting feature articles about UM history for a number of years now and has collected 23 of them here on topics ranging from the original selection of land for the campus to the origin of “Go Blue!” with women’s roles, student activism, sports and more. It’s a delightful compendium, engagingly written that you can read a little or a lot at a time!

Good Omens (DVD)

Quirky, clever, funny and sometimes thought provoking, this is the story of two immortal beings (one good, one bad) in search of the misplaced Anti-Christ, age eleven. Narrated by Frances McDormand (as the voice of God), the cast includes David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, Brian Cox, Benedict Cumberbatch and more. Based on a book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (not on our shelves, but we can get the book through MEL).

Covid Tests (All Out)

We have run out of at-home Covid tests and don’t anticipate getting more at this time. Check HERE to order a set of 8 tests.

Well, it is *kind* of a box!
