Creative use of the water collected by dehumidifiers
With North Carolina facing semi-drought conditions this summer, the Building Services Flood Team installed a water tank in the flood truck. The water is collected from dehumidifiers removing hundreds of gallons of water from a flood. These same water are then pumped into the power washing tanks to be used for graffiti removal and daily power washing tasks around campus. UD Shop working safely in the heat
The Utility Distribution (UD) Shop frequently has to work on the campus steam distribution system which involves working in hot steam manholes or the tunnels across campus. During the past week with high temperatures and even higher heat indexes, the UD Shop has taken additional measures to avoid heat exhaustion while still providing critical services to campus. Some of these measures include taking frequent breaks, swapping with other teammates to share the load, drinking extra water and electrolytes, and performing hot work during the cooler mornings whenever possible.
