Connecting YOU to Causes that MATTER! |
August 2022 |
“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.” -H. Jackson Brown, Jr. |
| A wonderful reminder recently landed in my inbox. August is National Wellness Month. While it may seem lately our society has days and months to celebrate nearly every occasion or whim, National Wellness Month is one worth participating in and acknowledging. A focus on our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health is vital to our overall wellness. |
It also feels like perfect timing to focus on this, as many of us are preparing to send children back to school, dropping off college students, and preparing for a hectic fall season. Be sure to take some time and check out wellnessmonth.com for information, resources, and ideas. |

Thank You for the Feedback! |
A special Thank You to our Donors! |
On behalf of our Board and staff members, thank you to all the donors who completed our Center for Effective Philanthropy survey. |
| Evaluation and continuous learning are strong values at the Community Foundation of Lorain County. As you may know, we worked with the Center for Effective Philanthropy to better understand our donors’ perceptions of our work and how we might continue to improve our processes. Community Foundation of Lorain County was part of a cohort to appreciate our donors’ feedback and how it compared to donors from other community foundations nationwide. |
Thank you to the many donors who completed this survey. We are reviewing the anonymous results and will use the data to inform our upcoming strategic planning process. |

Connections Matter in Our Community |
| I recently saw research from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that suggested individuals who feel a sense of security, belonging, and trust in their community have better overall health. When people feel a greater connection to their community, they are more inclined to take action to improve their health and the health of others. |
It was further explained that a key sign of community well-being is the value people place on—and how highly they prioritize—investments in health and well-being. Examples include investments in parks, youth mentoring and leadership, and improved accessibility for those with limited mobility. What better way to promote the health of our Lorain County community than by supporting our third annual Connect to a Cause taking place from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on September 15th. |

Youth Fund Accepting New Members |
Know any teenagers looking to make a DIFFERENCE in OUR community? |
The Youth Fund is the perfect opportunity for youth to use their leadership skills to make an impact county-wide! As a member of the Youth Fund, students collaborate with teens from all over Lorain County. Teens will learn that our backgrounds may differ, but our needs are the same. With that in mind, members create a mission statement by identifying the everyday needs of youth throughout Lorain County. Throughout the year, the Youth Fund has many opportunities to support its mission statement through grant making, volunteering, and event planning. The Youth Fund is accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. |
