Clinical Supervision
Clinical Supervision is a life line for many School Nurses who work in isolation. We are developing a NZSN Position Statement on Clinical Supervision - here are a few of our draft recommendations (spoiler alert!)
NZSN recommends:
- Every School Nurse should have access to high quality, individual (one on one), Clinical Supervision on a minimum of a monthly basis
- Clinical Supervision is ideally delivered by a senior, experienced, compassionate nurse with school nursing expertise and training in delivering Clinical Supervision
- A Clinical Supervisor should not have any line-management responsibility of any of their Supervisees
- Clinical Supervision should be funded by the employer, and not by the nurse
- Other forms of supervision are encouraged, such as group supervision, peer supervision and cultural supervision
- Other forms of supervision are not a satisfactory replacement or alternative to Individual Clinical Supervision, but rather a value-add on top of Individual Clinical Supervision.
We are really interested to build more support in this space for school nurses, so if you:
-have feedback on these draft recommendations,
-want to connect with a Trained School Nurse Clinical Supervisor,
-or want to register with NZSN as a provider of Clinical Supervision and be connected with Clinical Supervision Clients,
then please email us for information, charge rates, and more.
