‘Worried About Money?’ leaflet now available for B&NES
The leaflet offers a simple three step process to:-
  1. Identify the reason(s) for money worries
  2. Identify possible solutions and help
  3. Show the best places to get that help locally. It’s part of a national drive to promote a ‘cash first’ approach to helping people struggling on low incomes and with the cost of living crisis.

New ‘Cost of Living’  pages on Live Well B&NES website
The Live Well B&NES database now has even more information on the help available locally for anyone finding it hard to make ends meet, with the current price rises and squeeze on household budgets. It gives links for support around benefits, debt, food, childcare, employment and more.

Do you think you could be a volunteer mentor with Mentoring Plus?
Could you spare an hour or two a week to support a  young person aged 7-25 year old in BathNES facing family difficulties or challenges in school? Volunteer mentors are kind, committed adults who meet up weekly with the young person to have a chat, do fun activities and explore their community together.
 
No previous experience is needed and full training is given. To find out more information on how to become a volunteer mentor and how you can make a real difference to a young person’s life click here:

Our September edition of the suicide prevention newsletter is due to be released this month.
The theme for this newsletter is Loneliness. ‘
Loneliness is a feeling that most of us will experience at some point in our lives. You can feel lonely in a crowd, with colleagues at work, and with your friends and closest family. But if this loneliness becomes persistent, it can pose a significant risk to our health and wellbeing’

World Sepsis Day - Tuesday 13th September 2022

Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection. It happens when your immune system overreacts to an infection and starts to damage your body's own tissues and organs. Tuesday, 13th September marks World Sepsis Day and helps raise awareness around the matter. If you or your baby/ child are experiencing any of these symptoms, call 999 or go to A&E.
There are some measures you can take to help prevent Sepsis:

COOK IT

Free, cook-a-long style course for children and their families. Learn how to cook low cost, easy and healthy meals in a relaxed and fun group course. You can choose between either an in person course (equipment and ingredients provided) or online (£30 supermarket voucher given to cover ingredients costs).

  • Tuesday 4th Oct- 8th Nov (no session 25th Oct), 4-5.30pm at Southside Community Centre, Twerton (same day for 5 weeks)
  • Online COOK IT, Wednesday 21st Sept-19th Oct, 4.30-5.30pm (same day for 5 weeks)

LEAP

LEAP is a free programme for families of children and young people who are above a healthy weight*. Get 1-1 support via telephone or video call for children aged 5-10 (with family) and those aged 10-17 years. Receive a FREE 3-MONTH leisure centre pass upon completion for the child and nominated adult**. Covering topics around healthy food and drink swaps, physical activity/active play, the impact of screen time and why we make certain food choices.

Available to any child that falls between the 91st- 99.6th centile. We are unable to accept referrals above the 99.6th centile. Patients who fall into this category will need to be referred to Dietetics.

HENRY

Free, healthy families course for parents/carers with children aged 1-5 years. You can also choose between a group online course or a group in person course. Get supportive tips on healthy/fussy eating, impact of screen time, feeling more confident as a parent, family lifestyle habits and physical activity.

  • In person, 20th Sept - 15th Nov, 10-12.30pm in Twerton.

The C-card scheme is a free condom distribution scheme, enabling young people between the ages of 13 and 24 to access free condoms from various locations across B&NES. This course will help you understand the rationale and process in becoming a C-card scheme provider. If you are new to a service which provides the C-card scheme, you must also receive this training to enable you to participate in C-card. We are always encouraging new services to become C-card providers – so this training is also for you!
