Dear church,

As we look forward to the rest that often comes with the weekend, we have some updates to share.  Earlier this week, we shared a letter about an unsettling incident at church last weekend.  We’re thankful for the support from the community and hope folks continue to share the news with each other.

In response, we’re forming a security team that is exploring how to keep us safe while we’re in the building and how to keep our building safe when it is empty. We are accelerating some of our security plans we’ve had in the works and adding some additional common sense security components.

We’re improving our tech:

  1. Our two security cameras should be up and working by Friday (three cheers for our amazing property team!). We hope to order the additional cameras we’ve planned for within the week and integrate them with our security system.
  2. Eventually, we will integrate our camera system with our new red doors (which are back-ordered). In the meantime, we’ll install a video doorbell at the red doors.
  3. We’ve ordered some walkie-talkies, which will help our nursery staff communicate easily with our ushers during worship services.

We’re working to keep us safe while we’re in the building.

  1. We’re actively investigating how to train and equip our ushers.
  2. We’re inviting more folks to serve as greeters and ushers on Sunday mornings. (Interested? Talk to a staff member or Jessica Hallam!)
  3. We’ll keep the sanctuary doors as our primary Sunday morning entrance which will mean keeping the red doors locked.

We have some other plans we’re working on too and will share more down the road. We’re thankful for some energetic volunteers who have stepped up but need the support of other folks in the church. If you feel a nudge to volunteer on a Sunday morning as an usher or greeter, act on it. We’d love to add you to the team. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in church.

With peace,
The LMC Council

Communion @ LMC

Here at LMC, all are welcome at God’s Table! In extending this love and hospitality so that all may receive Jesus in the Sacrament, we are now offering Holy Communion 2 different ways. Consecrated bread or wafers are available, and we continue to offer the pre-packaged Communion kits (which include a gluten-free option). Both elements will be distributed separately in order to avoid any cross contamination of allergens and to assure minimal handling. Stay tuned for further updates!

Helping Hands are Needed

We are in need of a few more people to help out and serve on Sunday mornings as sacristans. Time requirements are minimal. and busy schedules will be accommodated. Reach out to Diane Schulte or Christopher Drummond for more information.

Streaming Note

We have had some technical difficulties with our streaming setup. We're working on a fix, but in the meantime, Pastor Lindsay will record her sermons and upload them to our YouTube page, and we will also try to record the whole Sunday worship service and upload that as well.

COVID Safety

LMC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of those who attend worship. Given the rise in COVID cases and the contagiousness of current COVID strains, we encourage anyone who attends worship to consider using N95 or KN95 masks. We will provide masks for those who do not have them. The city of Chicago COVID advisory level is currently HIGH. When the city moves the advisory level back to LOW, we will invite everyone to be mask optional in the sanctuary.

LMC is hiring!

We are looking to add on a Nursery Attendant as Bernadette prepares for parental leave and an Intern, Youth and Family Ministry! The respective links are here: Nursery Attendant and Intern, Youth and Family Ministry. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah. Feel free to share far and wide!

ELCA Churchwide Assembly

The 2022 ELCA Churchwide Assembly will be held in Columbus, Ohio, Aug. 8–12, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. We gather under the theme "Embody the Word."

ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton will open the assembly on Tuesday, Aug. 9, with a land acknowledgment noting that the gathering is taking place on the original and ancestral homelands of the Shawnee, Miami and Kaskaskia peoples.

Follow the news from the Churchwide Assembly on the ELCA YouTube page.

"Pick-up Choir" on Sunday, August 28

We'll gather at 9:15am that Sunday morning to rehearse a piece that we'll then sing at the 10am service. Email for more details, or talk to Christopher after Sunday's service.
