Dear church,
As we look forward to the rest that often comes with the weekend, we have some updates to share. Earlier this week, we shared a letter about an unsettling incident at church last weekend. We’re thankful for the support from the community and hope folks continue to share the news with each other.
In response, we’re forming a security team that is exploring how to keep us safe while we’re in the building and how to keep our building safe when it is empty. We are accelerating some of our security plans we’ve had in the works and adding some additional common sense security components.
We’re improving our tech:
- Our two security cameras should be up and working by Friday (three cheers for our amazing property team!). We hope to order the additional cameras we’ve planned for within the week and integrate them with our security system.
- Eventually, we will integrate our camera system with our new red doors (which are back-ordered). In the meantime, we’ll install a video doorbell at the red doors.
- We’ve ordered some walkie-talkies, which will help our nursery staff communicate easily with our ushers during worship services.
We’re working to keep us safe while we’re in the building.
- We’re actively investigating how to train and equip our ushers.
- We’re inviting more folks to serve as greeters and ushers on Sunday mornings. (Interested? Talk to a staff member or Jessica Hallam!)
- We’ll keep the sanctuary doors as our primary Sunday morning entrance which will mean keeping the red doors locked.
We have some other plans we’re working on too and will share more down the road. We’re thankful for some energetic volunteers who have stepped up but need the support of other folks in the church. If you feel a nudge to volunteer on a Sunday morning as an usher or greeter, act on it. We’d love to add you to the team. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in church.
With peace,
The LMC Council
