Happy August from NWFSC
Ok, we realize this is a couple days late–August was jam packed! We've been busy making infographics, attending field tours, planning webinars, and so much more! In addition to our roundup of recent publications, news, job openings, events, and other fire science-related resources, here are some highlights:
- Don't miss our new infographic on the importance of weed management for resilient forest landscapes, created in partnership with the Great Basin Fire Science Exchange and with much input from partners in the region.
- Register for our upcoming webinar on September 15th, which will present preliminary results of a survey of westside OR and WA family forest owners, and ask participants to help guide analysis stages of the project by highlighting what survey data they want to know more about. With the anniversary this weekend of the Labor Day Fires in 2020, the results provide increasing insight on how westside family forest landowners are managing their forests and their concerns about wildfire with climate change expectations. We hope to see you there!
- We are finalizing topics and dates for a fall Equity & Environmental Justice in Wildfire webinar series and are so excited to share updates with you in the coming month.
We hope everyone is staying safe, enjoying the last days of summer, and able to enjoy the long Labor Day weekend. If you have any news or resources you want us to highlight in future newsletters, we'd love to hear from you. And as always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
Stay safe out there,
Autumn Ellison

We had a wonderful opportunity this month to spend time w/ the OSU Forests & Natural Resources Extension team. We visited the Umpqua National Forest, meeting fire and natural resource planning stakeholders. We also went on a very insightful field tour, in the photo above we are learning how recent research has led to new understandings of fire history and adaptive management actions in OR forests.

UPCOMING WEBINAR:
Learn how family forest owners in westside Oregon & Washington are managing their forests & fire concerns in light of climate expectations. Presenters will share preliminary results of a survey of westside family forest landowners, and want to hear from registrants about what aspects of the data they want to see more about. Feedback will help guide ongoing analysis!
Thursday, 9/15, 10a PDT.

NEW INFOGRAPHIC!
Over the past year+, we've had discussions with a variety of partners concerned about improving coordination and communication around the topic of building resilient forest landscapes in the presence of invasive weeds. We worked with Great Basin Fire Science Exchange to make this infographic to provide an overview on weeds and disturbance in the context of implementing fuel treatments and management activities.
