Exciting times are ahead! For many, August signals the beginning of a new season (even though the weather might disagree): the start of a new school year, those school zones we had just started to forget about, and especially for us, the return of Wednesday Night activities! It all starts this Sunday as we take a moment in our services to bless students, teachers and school administrators and offer a free pancake breakfast for our church as we ramp up our fall ministries.
In addition, our new interim staff members are starting this Sunday. Leslie Blum will be on stage and Cindy Johnston will be herding children (and maybe a few volunteers) across the morning. We're grateful for their willingness to jump in and help as our search committees work to find the right people to lead our ministries.
We're entering a new sermon series called Lead Like Jesus, and I couldn't be more enthusiastic about it. Leadership isn't just for those in power or for "influencers." Leadership happens anytime we influence the thinking, behavior, or development of another person. We are all leaders, and we all face leadership challenges. Fortunately, Jesus is the greatest leadership model of all time.
Effective leadership begins on the inside—starting with a heart that is deeply connected to God through Christ. There are many choices in how we lead. The leadership of Jesus is one based on service. During this series, my hope is to bring us face-to-face with Jesus and His leadership style. Across the four weeks, we'll talk about:
- OUR HEART – Why we lead.
- OUR HEAD – What we think.
- OUR HANDS – What we do.
- OUR HABITS – How we keep our leadership on track.
How we understand Jesus's leadership is crucial to who we are as a church and as Christians in the world. Invite your friends and neighbors. This is a series that will change lives and families.
