Pastor's Note

“A Little Good News Today”

Dear Redeemer Friends,

At the close of yet another tough news week—I’m praying especially for the vast areas of the earth experiencing record-breaking temperatures—I can share something positive!

On Tuesday of this week, 10 Redeemer folks joined forces with 4 members of Faith Lutheran in Cedarburg to clean and paint an apartment. The apartment will be used as a first U.S. home for a refugee family. Redeemer and Faith are working together, guided by Lutheran Social Services (LSS). Abby Schumwinger and Amy Nyren are heading up the effort for Redeemer, and the committee of volunteers numbers near a dozen! This congregation likes to *serve*, it’s quite clear. The relationships that are forming between congregations—one urban, one suburban--strengthen the body of Christ and lay the groundwork for greater cooperation as time goes on. To make a special gift to our refugee resettlement efforts, write a check to Redeemer Lutheran with memo line: refugee resettlement and mail to Redeemer, 631 N. 19th Street, Milwaukee, WI.

Good news happens on Thursdays when a great team of volunteers assists around 40 neighbors a week with food and conversation.  Good news happens at Noon Run on Sundays after worship; yet another volunteer team serves great food and friendly companionship to another 30 neighbors.  Good news happens ONLINE in the first week of our “A New Kitchen for a New Day”:

The campaign ends August 31; here’s hoping we will share the good news of $26,000 raised by that day.  Please SHARE the link widely!

This week in worship:  A wild and woolly scrap of scripture. I’m wrestling away on the sermon, and coming up with a different interpretation than the theologians who went before me!  Here’s a sneak peak at the bulletin cover:

Peace,
Pastor Lisa

P.S. You are always welcome to bring a bottle of water on Sundays to stay hydrated and keep cool during worship!
Please share the link to our online campaign to raise money for a NEW kitchen. Our goal is to raise $26,000 by August 31st. Click the button below or visit: give.weraise.org/redeemermilwaukee

Thank you for your support!
