We Want to Hear from You

The Management Committee of Cairns Basketball is in the process of developing a new strategic plan.

To ensure that the plan has input from all our stakeholders, a survey has been developed to gather the opinions of all participants so that we can assess our delivery of competitions, programs and services and plans for the future.

If you would like to have input to the new plan, we encourage you to participate in the survey by clicking the SURVEY LINK below. We estimate this should take just a few minutes to complete. Your responses to this survey will be treated confidentially with a consolidated summary of all responses made available to the Management Committee to assist in developing the next Strategic Plan.

2022 NBL1 North

July was a tough period for the Kenfrost Homes Dolphins and The Ground Marlins which included a three-game road trip taking on the Brisbane Capitals, The Northside Wizards and the Southern Districts Spartans.

The Dolphins had to do this without Cayla George who was in the US with the Opals. They were successful against the Brisbane Capitals in the first game which is largely down to the tremendous effort from Penina Davidson’s double double, 24 points and 16 rebounds. Unfortunately, Penina suffered an injury in this game and was unable to play in the next two games where the Kenfrost Homes Dolphins suffered losses.

The Ground Marlins had two wins on the road beating both the Brisbane Capitals and the Northside Wizards, but lost to Southern Districts Spartans in the third game. Ben Ayre had another standout performance averaging 27 point per game over the three games. He was ably supported by Lat Mayen who average 18 point per game for this road trip.

The Kenfrost Homes Dolphins need to win the next two home games to keep their finals hopes alive. Currently in sixth place, they have two tough games ahead playing Mackay Meteorettes tomorrow night, 29 July 2022 and Townville Flames next Saturday night, 6 August, also at home.

The Ground Marlins are currently in fourth place and need to win their last two games to hold onto their current position on the ladder. This is important as fourth place provides us with a home quarter final where we would take on the team that finishes fifth.

Details of the next two home games are below:

Under 14 State Championship

The Queensland State Championship for Boys and Girls were held in late June and early July.

Our teams did well achieving the following results:

  • Dolphins - 9th

  • Marlins - 8th

  • Corals - 4th (Division 3)

  • Stingers - 3rd (Division 2)

We congratulate all players, coaches and team managers.

Cairns Basketball hosted the Under 14 Girls State Championships. This very large event generated over $2M in economic benefit to Cairns.

Given the number of teams and spectators there was a lot to do and we could not have done it without the support of the many people who volunteered to assist. We thank you for your support.
