Dear friends and partners,

Today marks the end of a successful summer school and enrichment program in LAUSD. We had more than 100,000 students enrolled in academic lessons, innovative STEM projects, creative art and music classes, outdoor learning activities, and plenty of time for play. These are all important parts of an ongoing path to recovery – and our commitment to supporting kids through this crisis doesn’t take a vacation.

Time keeps flying by, and it’s hard to believe that we’ll be welcoming students back to school in less than a month. As the District continues to monitor health conditions and follow public health guidelines, we are excited for a new year of academic progress, growth, and fun for our students – in the classroom, together with their teachers and peers.

Wishing everyone a cool, safe, and enjoyable rest of the summer!

That's a wrap on another great summer of learning in LAUSD! Great to see so many teachers, staff, and partners come together to provide academic support, outdoor experiences, educational projects, exciting field trips, and most of all — fun!
In the Spotlight: Welcoming our new Student Board Member!
We are excited to welcome this year's new Student Board Member, Nate Shin! Nate is starting his senior year at North Hollywood High, and attended Portola Middle School in Board District 4. Nate previously served on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council and decided to run for the Board to lend a strong student voice while the District faces a time of transition. Nate is also a member of his school's DECA Club, and recently won an international championship at this year's DECA competition! Some of Nate's priorities include expanding financial literacy, promoting student mental health, and advocating for students at the local, state, and national levels — and we look forward to working with him to drive progress on those goals and more!
