Northern Centre for Medical Research Launches at UNBC
The UBC Faculty of Medicine, University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and Northern Health have teamed up to launch a new Northern Centre for Clinical Research (NCCR). Housed at UNBC in Prince George, NCCR is working closely with northern and Indigenous health practitioners, patients and researchers to enhance clinical and biomedical research in the north and improve care for northerners. Salima Somani, a new RCCbc research associate focusing on research and evaluation of Real-Time Virtual Support, is being hosted at the centre. Compassion Cultivation Training Course
The Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) course is adapted specifically for health care professionals to explore how compassion can be cultivated and strengthened to thrive personally and professionally. The course is led by Shireen Mansouri, MD CCFP(EM) FCFP, a family physician and certified Compassion Cultivation Teacher who is interested in exploring Compassion Cultivation as a potential antidote to empathic distress and burnout in health care.
This eight-week course includes:
Weekly two-hour online class, with short didactic talks and class exercises
Access to daily meditation practices that progress weekly
Practical exercises to apply in daily life and move practices into long-term habits
Classes will be held virtually on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm PT from September 14 to November 2. The cost for this course is $250 and is discounted for students. Registration deadline is September 7.
