Registration Extended for TUFH 2022 Conference

With more than 300 presenters, delegates from over 50 countries, and a truly exceptional program, you don't want to miss Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) in Vancouver on August 16 to 19. The conference will feature an immense array of health topics—including Indigenous, rural and mental health, lessons learned from the pandemic, women's health, gender-based violence, and much more. Registration ends July 31 for in-person and August 10 for virtual attendance. Full conference sponsorship is available for Indigenous Peoples through First Nations Health Authority. RHSRNbc Research Symposium Recap


Did you catch the Virtual Research Symposium: Resilient Transformation of Rural Communities in British Columbia? This two-day event covered the resiliency and transformation of rural communities from several perspectives, discussed ways to apply knowledge, and brainstormed ideas to generate new knowledge and extend the research. Key themes investigated in the symposium include:

Northern Centre for Clinical Research

Northern Centre for Medical Research Launches at UNBC

The UBC Faculty of Medicine, University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and Northern Health have teamed up to launch a new Northern Centre for Clinical Research (NCCR). Housed at UNBC in Prince George, NCCR is working closely with northern and Indigenous health practitioners, patients and researchers to enhance clinical and biomedical research in the north and improve care for northerners. Salima Somani, a new RCCbc research associate focusing on research and evaluation of Real-Time Virtual Support, is being hosted at the centre. BC EMN Offers Patient Information Sheets

Compassion Cultivation

Compassion Cultivation Training Course

The Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) course is adapted specifically for health care professionals to explore how compassion can be cultivated and strengthened to thrive personally and professionally. The course is led by Shireen Mansouri, MD CCFP(EM) FCFP, a family physician and certified Compassion Cultivation Teacher who is interested in exploring Compassion Cultivation as a potential antidote to empathic distress and burnout in health care.
 
This eight-week course includes:

  • Weekly two-hour online class, with short didactic talks and class exercises
  • Access to daily meditation practices that progress weekly
  • Practical exercises to apply in daily life and move practices into long-term habits

Classes will be held virtually on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm PT from September 14 to November 2. The cost for this course is $250 and is discounted for students. Registration deadline is September 7.

The Rural POCUS Rounds series aims to increase the use of, experience with, and community surrounding point-of-care ultrasound for rurally based healthcare providers. Join us on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 12–1 pm PDT, with Dr. Virginia Robinson, who will speak about Ultrasound for Heart and Lung.

Learning Objectives:

  • Overview of RUSH protocol for shock
  • Performing and interpreting trans thoracic views of the heart in relation to shock
  • Performing and interpreting lung views in relation to shock
