What is Central Office of Louisiana, or COLA?

It is a local group of OA members (recognized by the World Service Office as an "Intergroup") who come together to carry the message of 12-step recovery in Southeast Louisiana. As representatives of our local community, we:

  1. sponsor an annual OA retreat and annual workshops for OA groups and fellows to attend;
  2. serve as a link between our local OA groups and regional and national OA groups; and
  3. help other local individuals who need OA, to locate local members through the website, phone service, and other ways.

Whether your meeting is held in Covington, Houma, Mandeville, Metairie, New Orleans, Slidell, or anywhere else in the Southeast Louisiana region, each group’s voice is essential in making our local OA fellowship strong. Please send a representative to COLA. There is no special skill or knowledge needed – just the desire to serve your OA fellows in a new way! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

OPEN SERVICE POSITIONS

Service is one of the Nine Tools of Recovery and is crucial to our recovery! The following are opportunities to strengthen your recovery through service:

PIPO Chair and Members Needed - Public Information and Professional Outreach (PIPO) committee chair helps to identify and implement one or two projects to carry the message to prospective members and/or to medical professionals and counselors. The newly formed committee could choose any project that excites them, including but not limited to: Bus Advertising, Facebook Ads, Internet Search engine advertising, tabling at health fairs and conventions, and preparing packets to have current OA members give to their personal doctors and counselors.

The PIPO chair is responsible for scheduling. and leading PIPO committee meetings; and also to report back to Intergroup each month on the committee’s progress. Please contact Julia S (intergroup chair) at spearjc@gmail.com is or Karen T (former PIPO chair)at taylorks@aol.com if you are interested.

Unity With Diversity Chair and Members Needed - The Unity with Diversity Policy for the Fellowship of Overeaters Anonymous encourages and promotes acceptance and inclusivity. The chair calls a meeting quarterly (or more as needed) before the COLA meeting and reports to COLA. The chair distributes diversity checklist and other information to group representatives, coordinates with other committee chairs as needed, and works with the members to make recommendations and support local groups in reflecting the diverse needs of the fellowship.
