GVIN (Grand Valley Interfaith Network) is sponsoring an orientation and training to create more awareness about human trafficking which is a growing problem in our community. GVIN would like representation from all the local churches concerned about human rights and the safety of all of our citizens. Please consider attending and call or email Judy Herr at (970) 245-4933 or judyherr45@gmail.com, so that our presenter, Tom Acker, will have enough materials for attendees. The training will be Wednesday, August 3 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at UU 536 Ouray Avenue.
Western Slope Against Trafficking- Training
Human Trafficking is a problem that is poorly understood and disproportionately affects marginalized communities and vulnerable people of different backgrounds and ages. It will flourish when citizens are unaware of the environment that promotes it and are thus unable to recognize its signs. These indicators are hidden beneath language barriers, shame, confusion, and fear. Business practices, lack of resources, and ignorance can increase a person’s vulnerability. With awareness and supportive action, we can increase our community’s effective response to this serious issue. Come and learn more!

Painting by Kirk Shiflett. His work is a social commentary on human environments and their encroachment on wildlife habitats.
Mark you calendars for our next Koinonia Art Stroll, Tuesday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. More than just a stroll to look at exhibitions, Matt Jones, The Art Center curator, has been giving us personalized tours while sharing his vast knowledge in art history and artistic techniques. It's fun, it's interesting, it's informative, and it's free. If you haven't been able to join us on our other visits, we hope you will come and check it out and bring a friend if you like. Click HERE for more information about upcoming exhibitions.

Becky Stoddart, whose family was one of our original Church of the Brethren families, has made beautiful cards for Koinonia for many years and continues to share them with us. Thank you, Becky, for this wonderful gift!

Becky makes cards in between taking care of her grandsons. Ethan helped his grandma bring cards to Koinonia to replenish our supply and enjoyed building a tower while he was here.

Pillowcase dresses made by Janie White and Catherine Eicher
"We have made good progress on the second house. It is almost done. We meet every morning with the Church leaders to start our day. We visited a house that we built about 6 years ago. Her husband is now working with the contractor and ESNA. He is learning how to do concrete work. They are a very nice family. Of course it is very hot and humid here but we have had a good rainstorm almost every night. It is good for their crops. I am looking forward to seeing you all soon."

Please pause to hold in your heart the prayers and concerns of our beloved community:
|
|
|
- For Janie White and the other El Salvador travelers, and for the others in our community who are traveling.
- For healing and patience for those recovering from injuries.
- For families experiencing food, housing, and other insecurity among high inflation.
- For the safety of so many experiencing extreme heat temperatures.
- For our world leaders.
You are invited to share the circumstances that are touching your heart in recent days. Please contact Bonnie (administrator@koinoniagj.org) or Ellen (director@koinoniagj.org) if you have joys, concerns, and/or prayer requests that you would like to share with the community.
