AFTER WORSHIP:

Coffee Hour in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Social and Environmental Justice meets at noon on Zoom.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Send in Images for July 31 Zoom Worship!
The last Sunday of each month will be online only. The visual theme for July 31 will be summer gardens. Please send photos to Meighan by Monday, July 25.

Doors Are Sticking

Please be aware that the double doors off Prospect St have swollen and are currently not closing and latching on their own. If you visit the building, you will need to give the door an extra push to close it upon exit or pull to close it upon entry. Trustees are working on a solution.

The UCC in Action!

Volunteers from 21 churches in the UCC (including Prospect--see top left and right photos) volunteered to send post cards to encourage potential environmental voters in the state of Colorado. Thanks to the Rev. Roberta Rominger for organizing an effort that ultimately led to 5,000 postcards being sent by 45 volunteers. See them in action with their postcards!

Directory Update
An updated church directory is available in hard copy in the church office and online here. The printed directory is updated twice a year. The online directory is updated as changes occur (once already since printing!). If you need the password for the online directory, or wish to have a printed directory mailed to you, please contact the church office.

Liturgists Needed
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to read in worship! We have openings for all Sundays in August. Please sign up here or contact the church office or Louise Morehead to volunteer.

Summer Coffee Hour
Coffee Hour resumed on July 10th with homemade cookies, strawberries and ice cream, and a variety of sweet breads. Thanks for the help of Mary Liz for serving and clean up and the tasty cookies, Carolyn for the strawberries and ice cream, and Muriel for the sweet breads. This Sunday, Amy is providing the snack and helping serve.  Much appreciation to those who have helped. Next coffee hours are August 7th, and August 21st. Volunteers are needed to keep this social time happening.
Judy 206 325 2851.

Share Your Photos!
It's time to update the bulletin board of photos in the Fellowship Hall! If you have photos of recent Prospect events (e.g. clean-up day, coffee hour, farm day, or Cajun Celebration for the Climate), please share a few prints that we can post. You may mail them to the church or leave them in Karen's inbox in the office. If you are not able to print your photos, please send a small selection of digital images to prospectucc@yahoo.com.

Afghan Family Update
Thank you to all who have contributed to the Afghan refugee fund. We are spending it on household goods, sewing machine repair and maintenance, a new cell phone for Mohammed, and expect to buy them a TV set this week to increase their exposure to English and ESL materials. They are settled in their apartment in south Seattle. They have one small car. Mohammed has a job moving cars for a rental company and Mustafa, the eldest son, is working at a bakery and is attending school to work on his GED. Mahlia, the mother is hoping to find work sewing. They have been to Whidbey Island, the zoo, Seattle waterfront and Ferris wheel, Snoqualmie Falls, Seward Park and a trip to the Aquarium is planned for next week. Suzanne Anderson is heading a team of English tutoring volunteers. There is a glitch getting them WiFi in their apartment but we hope to increase the tutoring by ZOOM once that happens.  We tutors are concerned that since they have made friends with other Afghan families in the apartment complex and with school being out, the children are not having enough chance to practice English.  Mahlia has contributed 9 quilt squares to a Prospect community quilt being made. She is also a good cook and passes out Afghan cookies whenever we meet. They continually express gratitude for all we are doing for them.

Do you have carpets needing cleaning?  Cora Trujillo has a carpet shampooer and will come to your home and shampoo your carpets if you have contributed at least $200 to the refugee fund! Donate online here, or make checks payable to Prospect Congregational UCC and indicate "Refugee Fund" in the memo.

Donations of Cell Phones, Tablets, and Laptops Requested
Maryalice Power shares the following announcement:
"My daughter Dr. Julliette Power and her friend Irma Schneider, a nurse, are both going to Rwanda in September to help with medical care. They are working at the Adventist University of Central Africa to help refugees from the Congo to obtain education and be able to move out of a cycle of dependency living in the camps. They are reaching out to solicit people who have old cell phones, tablets, or laptops that they would be willing to donate to help the students. Please call or email me (206-324-2483 or maryalicepower@hotmail.com) and I will pick them up or come to the church. Thank you."

Schedule
Church staff continue to work remotely most days. Email and voicemail are checked regularly during office hours. Karen works 9 am to 1 pm Tuesday-Thursday and 10 am to 2 pm on Friday. Karen will usually be in the office on Fridays.

Giving
Thank you to all the generous givers who have sent checks or made online donations!
Prospect offers three ways to donate electronically, which puts your gift directly into our bank account:
  1. Go to https://www.prospectseattle.org/donate to set up electronic giving online for one-time or recurring donations;
  2. Download the free Vanco Mobile app for IOS or Android.

    - Choose "Vanco Mobile Faith Engagement";
    - Select Prospect Congregational UCC;

    - Create an account using your email address. (If you already have online giving set up, you can sign in using your same login information on the app.)

  3. Text-to-give:
          - Text 833-297-5332 and enter the amount you wish to donate: $xx or $xx.xx;
          - Click the registration link and enter your payment information;
         - Receive a verification text as well as an email receipt. For future giving, simply send a text to the same number with the amount you wish to give, and your donation will process automatically. (Watch this GivePlus Text video to see how easy it is to make a quick donation.)

Vanco Payment Solutions' Client Services team will also take donations over the phone: 800.675.7430.

You may also set up automatic payment with your bank or mail checks to the church yourself. We encourage electronic payments because that is safer for our financial secretaries and puts the funds into our bank account more quickly.
