We have recently welcomed Lucrecia CISNEROS RINCON (EMA 2021) to our team, as a short-term Communications Consultant. Lucrecia has extensive experience in writing, text editing, journalism, and filmmaking. In our collaboration she is focusing in the creation of an updated Communications/Social Media Strategy and a Communications Plan for the EMAlumni Association and will support the Board Members in improving their understanding and skills in the use of Social Media for the strengthening of the online exchanges among the alumni community.

Founded by Andra MATEI (EMA 2007) Avant-Garde Lawyers (AGL) is an international non-governmental organisation providing pro-bono specialised legal assistance to artists in situations of increased vulnerability. AGL is now offering - ‘The ‘Art’ of Defending Artists’, an online course in the domain of artistic freedom, in October 2022. The course will train stakeholders to navigate international and regional mechanisms to effectively defend artists’ rights. Human rights and cultural rights defenders including lawyers, civil society organisation professionals, advocates, socially engaged artists and students are encouraged to apply.

Sophie MAGENNIS (EMA 1998) is now the new Head of UNHCR's Liaison Office to the EU Agency for Asylum (EUAA) in Malta.
Meet new Programme Officer at Human Dignity Trust in Canada, Charles-Antoine LEBOEUF (EMA 2021). Charles will supports legislative reforms and manage projects aiming at the protection of LGBT people.
Hélène BAUWENS (EMA 2021) started a new position as Communications and fundraiser Officer at European Lawyers in Lesvos.

Laura PASQUERO (EMA 2007) co-authored the article "Enhancing a survivor-centred approach to healthcare provision in Afghanistan: Understanding and addressing the barriers faced by male victims/survivors of sexual violence". Open access till 5 October here.
Laura will be the guest editor in the special issue on "Addressing sexual violence in fragile settings - practice, policies and research” of the Global Journal of Medicine and Public Health.

In June 2022, Nikoletta PIKRAMENOU (EMA 2014) facilitated a training on “Intersex rights in Greece and in Europe”, introducing for the first time the topic to 300 judges at the National School of Judges in Greece, as a legal expert and member of Intersex Greece (the only intersex-led organisation in the country).
The work of Intersex Greece led later in summer 2022 to the adoption of a bill by the Greek Parliament, that officially bans the surgeries performed on intersex children. During the process, Intersex Greece was supported by other intersex-led organisations such as OII Europe and InterAct. Greece is now the 5th country in the world to ban intersex genital mutilation (IGM).

EMA SKILLS BUILDING WORKSHOPS
27-28 October 2022
The EMA is offering to the 2022/2023 students an enhanced theoritical understanding along with the opportunity to participate in skills building workshops that aim to provide them with operational skills in the field of human rights and democratisation.
The EMAlumni Association will select one alum to facilitate one of the four workshops that will develop in 27/28 of October, the "Human Rights Impact Assessment" workshop. We are looking for a motivated alum with solid knowlegde and hands-on experience on human rights impact assessment.

CAREER DAY & EMAlumni AWARD 2022
The time has come for the annual Career Day to establish the first links between the Association and the new students. During the two days workshops (21-22 September) the facilitators will present their experiences and share insight on how to navigate the human rights world, through many different angles. A warm thank you to all applicants for their interest!
The recipient of the EMAlumni Award 2022 has been decided by this year's jury members and will be announced during the Graduation Ceremony at the Grande Scuola di San Rocco, on September 25.

EMA TURNS 25
The year 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the EMA programme. That is 25 generations of amazing Masteroni!
The EMAlumni Association eager to celebrate such an anniversary, is soon launhcing videos of alumni, shortly presenting their current career and how the EMA has helped to arrive where they are. The first video compilation will be launched at the Graduation weekend in Venice (24-25 September) while the complete edition will be published in autumn 2022.

New Academic Year
Last week the headquarters of the Global Campus of Human Rights welcomed a new cohort of students of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA - #GCEurope). During orientation week the EMA team guided Global Campus Europe Students through the administrative aspects of student life in Lido, as well as introduced them to the programme and history of #GCHumanRights.
Summer School in Cinema Human Rights and Advocacy
The 17th edition of the Summer School in Cinema Human Rights and Advocacy has been successfully completed. The annual training is an initiative jointly developed by the Global Campus of Human Rights (GC) and Picture People. The school is aimed at professionals wishing to broaden their understanding on the connections between human rights, films, digital media and video advocacy, and learn how to use film as a tool for social change.
The programme has a focus on the rights of children and young people in the broader framework of human rights protection and promotion. The course is designed to appeal to professionals from diverse backgrounds, nationalities and experiences.

Jessica FIORELLI (EMA 2016) has been a Board Member since June 2021 and is now elected in the position of the President of the Board. Camille ROUX (EMA 2016) works as an Advocacy Officer at COFACE . Filipe VENDRAME (EMA 2016) works as a talent recruiter and Florence CARROT (EMA 2014 works on the topic of Gender Based Violence.
