Letter from the Band Manager:

I hope you are having a spectacular summer! The days are long, the sun shines bright, and everything is just a bit lighter and more carefree.


We just spent a lovely day up in Charlevoix, Michigan. It was a perfect day for an outdoor wedding at Shanahan's Barn at the Charlevoix Country Club. Congratulations to Patrick & Chelsea and thanks for including us in your special day. 

I have received many inquiries recently regarding ceremony sound & music and cocktail hour music. Here's an FAQ which covers basic questions. If you have any others please feel free to contact me and we can go through them.

 

1. Why is ceremony sound important?

Being able to hear the ceremony is crucial for the family & guests in attendance so they can be part of the service. We have a low profile sound system that sounds great for ceremonies but doesn't have a huge footprint. We can position it to be out of the way yet still make sure that the officiant & couple are heard loud and clear for all sizes of weddings.

2. How do you setup microphones for the officiant & couple?

We use wireless microphones so there is no danger of anyone tripping on a cord. Options for the officiant include a headset microphone (great for those who gesture or move around) or a handheld microphone (perfect for a stationary lectern). For the couple, we like to use a microphone on a stand which is set to a low height. We can still pick up the voice audio without having anything near your face to get in the way of pictures. 

3. Is music included in the ceremony sound package?

We are currently running a special for July: Ceremony music (live or prerecorded) is included FREE with Ceremony Sound packages for weddings booked before August 1, 2022!

4. Can you setup up in multiple locations with different sound systems? 

Yes, we can! We have a variety of sound systems which we gauge to the size of the area, number in attendance, and the purpose of the sound in that area. For example, at the wedding we just did in Charlevoix we had a system for the ceremony, one for cocktail hour on the patio, one inside the dinner area for toasts & background music, and one in the performance area for the band. 

5. What are the options for cocktail hour music?

For cocktail hour, I suggest something that's not overbearing as the purpose is to provide an undercurrent of music to facilitate mingling - a vibe if you will. This can be effective with acoustic guitar & vocal, instrumental piano, or something prerecorded. If you have anything specific in mind please let me know, I'm open to ideas.

We have experience to make sure your day runs smoothly. Band leader and manager Rich Burkholder has performed and MC'd at over 300 wedding receptions. He is well versed in the flow of events and will customize everything to your timeline and reception feel.
 
Can you provide MC & DJ services also?
Yes, we provide a complete audio solution to your reception and also ceremony if desired. All MC & DJ services are provided. We provide wireless mics for toasts, prayers, and other announcements.

Can you provide sound and music for the ceremony and cocktail hour?
Yes, we have multiple sound systems and are able to setup in different locations concurrently. We can provide microphones & music for ceremonies and cocktail hours. We have many different music options with our musicians on staff including acoustic guitar & vocals, instrumental piano, piano / guitar duo and more.

Can we choose the song list?
Absolutely. You can be as detailed as you'd like with guidance on songs to play or not to play and when they should happen. We can learn any songs for special music as needed.

Do you meet with each couple?
Yes, Rich Burkholder will meet with you in person if possible or via Skype if distance is an issue. He will go through the timeline for your day to make sure everything happens on time. You can spend your time enjoying your special day and Rich will take care of the schedule.

What do you wear for weddings?
We've performed at weddings of all shapes and sizes. We'll customize our attire to the feel of your reception. Suits, tuxes, smart casual, whatever the feel of your reception is, just let us know and we'll fit right in!

How loud is the band?
We use the latest technology in audio including wireless Ipad mixers to ensure that we are at the proper sound level for the venue. We check in multiple times throughout the evening to make sure you are comfortable with our sound level.


How long do you play?
Our sets are customizable to your timeline. Usual timelines are 3x50 minute sets or 4x45 minute sets.

Do you allow special guests?
We do as long as this is prearranged beforehand. If you have a friend or family member who needs accompaniment at the ceremony, we have musicians for that also.

Do you travel for weddings?
