SUMMER FESTIVAL
FOOD & DRINK
We're excited to share with you the catering options available during our Summer Festival this year:

Picnics galore from The Deli
You can now book a three-course picnic for two, supplied by the marvellous team at The Deli. VBF's local artisan delicatessen, The Deli, is an independent family owned business operating for over 8 years. There's a choice for carnivores and vegetarians, making sure no-one will go hungry before the performance.
Pre-order only; available Friday and Sunday

VBF Bar
No need to BYOB, the VBF Bar will once again be serving a range of refreshing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as sweet and savoury snacks (to include plenty of vegan options). This should make for the perfect addition to any picnic before the show.
You'll be able to pre-order drinks for the interval on-site (we listened to your feedback, thanks for sharing!).
Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday

New this year... Coffee!
Gibson's coffee will be serving freshly made espressos, cappuccinos, hot chocolates and iced coffees amongst other delicious beverages. Alex Gibson has been serving the community to rave reviews and we're very excited to be in partnership with him.
Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday

SUMMER FESTIVAL
BOOK NOW
We can't believe there’s just over a month to go before the start of this year's summer festival! It's going to be a music-packed weekend with two performances of Charpentier's Orphée and Carissimi's Jephte on the Friday and Sunday, and two performances of our brand new family show, A History of Sound, on the Saturday.

One of the things that makes VBF so unique is its beautiful setting in the grounds of the historic Vache, an estate once owned by James II. The grounds are open for all ticket holders before the shows to explore and (arguably more importantly!) to picnic in. Join us early for our signature pre-show pop-ups, installations and educational stalls.

#VBSHOWCASE: NO.6 CHIARI MARGARITA COZZOLANI
WATCH NOW
Chiari Margarita Cozzolani (1602-1676/8) was born to wealthy parents and her musical education is thought to have been conducted through one of two choirs that performed for local families and dignitaries. At the age of 18 she became a nun and entered the Benedictine monastery of Santa Radegonda in Milan. Her skill as a composer and performer was well-known in the area, making the monastery one of the principal musical attractions of the city.

Sadly some of Cozzolani's works were lost in the Second World War, but of the works that remain it is clear that she was an extremely talented composer, composing not just spiritual works but secular ones also. Her compositions were all vocal but ranged from solo monodies to full-blown vespers. What is so impressive, given that her entire adult life was spent in a monastery, is the deep knowledge and understanding her works show of contemporary compositional techniques.

In the latter part of her life, Cozzolani composed less frequently due to her roles as the Prioress and the Abbess. Thankfully for us, due to the publications of Cozzolani in her lifetime, her compositions were known outside of her monastery and therefore have survived (mostly) for us to enjoy today!

We're delighted to welcome back soprano Hilary Cronin, harpsichordist Asako Ogawa and baroque cellist Jenny Bullock, who are joined by violinists Christiane Eidsten Dahl and Emma Lake.
Laudate Dominum omnes gentes
Praise the Lord, all you nations.

Laudate eum omnes populi.
Praise him, all you people.

Quoniam confirmata est super nos misericordia euis
For confirmed upon us is his mercy.

et veritas Domini manet in aeternum.
And the truth of the Lord remains forever.

Gloria Patri, gloria Filio,
Glory to the Father, glory to the Son

et Spiritui Sancto gloria
And glory to the holy spirit.

sicut erat in principo et nunc et semper
As it was in the beginning, is now and always shall be

et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
world without end. Amen.
