RUF-I Clemson campus minister, Brian Howard, and me in our matching hats!

Hello Friends,

As many of you know, I have decided to work as an intern with RUF-International! About 2 months ago, RUF-I was not even on my radar, but after attending Summer Conference with the Texas A&M RUF-I group, I was quickly convinced that this was where God wanted me.

I have been selected to be the RUF-I intern at Clemson University for the 2022-2024 school year! Reformed University Fellowship is the college ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America and is on over 170 campuses around the nation. The ministry’s mission is to reach students with the gospel of Jesus Christ and equip those students to serve Him, not just on their campus, but in all of life.

This past week I had the privilege of attending July training! It was a great opportunity for me to meet all of the other interns, campus staff, and campus ministers. The training consisted of intentional meetings and seminars in order to prepare us for the ministry we are about to be immersed in. While this email is not long enough to share all of the things I learned, I would like to share some fruitful moments from SuCo in May and July training.

Texas A&M RUF-I group that allowed me to come to SuCo with them. It was a great week of praising Jesus and making friends!

Firstly, at the beginning of SuCo I was considering working with RUF-I, but also considering a couple other options and was ultimately unsure of where God wanted me. The second day of SuCo I had a conversation with a student from India who told me, “we like you, you have to do it,” in reference to me potentially working as an RUF-I intern. I could hear his voice in my head all week, so on the final day of SuCo I met with the RUF-I area coordinator to discuss the potential of me becoming an intern. He asked me where my head was at with RUF and if I were considering any other opportunities. I shared that there was another position in ministry I had been considering and had just begun the application process with them. I shared that I was leaning more strongly towards working with RUF-I because interns are required to participate in a study program and I believed it would be good for me to be an intern before stepping out into a ministry where I would not receive the same guidance as I would in RUF. He was incredibly quick to affirm me that God would prepare for whatever it is that He is calling me to, whether that be RUF or the other position I had applied for, and that if I felt God was calling me elsewhere, that I should go boldly with confidence in Christ, and that God would prepare the way. Hearing him say this immediately showed me that RUF-I was where I was called to. This week at training, one of the speakers said, “The chief end of RUF is not RUF; the chief end of RUF is Jesus.” And that is exactly what God showed me in my conversation with the RUF-I area coordinator. I’m excited to work with a ministry that so intentionally preaches the sovereignty of God and proclaims the love of Jesus to not only students, but the RUF ministers, staff, and interns as well.

During one seminar at training, a speaker talked on the difficulties we can face in ministry. One of the deepest troubles in ministry is the fact that we are not immune to worldliness, and often can become dependent on our God-given gifts instead of on God Himself. Psalm 127:1 says “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” A tendency that many of us have is to believe that ministry is all up to us. That we are responsible for saving the lost. The beauty of Psalm 127 is that it teaches us that we do not have to take matters into our own hands. Since God is at work, we are free to lean and depend on Him in ministry. We are free to use our gifts, but not let our gifts become what we are. God has already told us what we are when he told us we are His. Our ministry and the use of our gifts should flow from our confidence in God’s power, not our confidence in self, because He is able on His own, yet delights in using His children to further His kingdom. Hallelujah!
Me and some of the other interns after a game of ultimate frisbee at July training. Thankful for my new friends who share the same passion for sharing the love of Jesus as I do!

Classes at Clemson start August 22nd and we will also be having a lake day early in the semester to welcome students to campus. I would love to be there by the 22nd so that I can be a part of that initial welcome! Because intern salaries and expenses are raised completely through financial gifts from

individuals and churches, please prayerfully consider supporting my work with RUF. In order for me to move to Clemson, I need to be at 85% of my funds raised and am currently at 20%. I am so thankful for the support I have received so far, both financially and prayerfully. If you are reading this and would like to support me financially, here is how! Supporters can choose to either give monthly support or one-time gifts. One option is to give online at givetoruf.org and type in “Anna Ayers”, which will take you to my donation page, or a check can be mailed to: RUF, PO Box 890004, Charlotte, NC 28289-0004. Any donation given by check will need my fund code, 7138, written on the memo line in order for the funds to be processed.
*all gifts are tax deductible and RUF is a certified 501(c)(3).

Thank you so much for all of your support! Because of you I am one step closer to being on campus and sharing the love of Jesus with students at Clemson. I am both excited and nervous as I embrace God’s call for me to minister to international students there, but am trusting in God and His sovereignty and care to prepare the way before me and to build the house, so that I do not labor in vain.

Isaiah 55:10-11:

[10] For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, [11] so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Peace of Christ,
Anna Ayers
