This month, we are excited to introduce Human Options! Human Options is an FSC member whose vision is being committed to a future in which every person and family in Orange County experiences safe, healthy relationships and lives free of fear. Homelessness effects families experiencing domestic violence. In just one day, over 40,000 adults and children fleeing domestic violence in the US, find refuge in emergency and transitional housing. In 1981, four remarkable women founded Human Options and gave life to a vision that no woman or child would ever be afraid in their own home. Forty years later, the organization leads the way at the center of a collective county-wide response in service of those threatened by abuse in Orange County. Since opening their doors, Human Options has impacted the lives of more than 500,000 individuals affected by relationship violence. This report highlights family homelessness in Orange County. Every month, the FSC will be releasing our monthly snapshot of Family Homelessness in Orange County. Often times, homeless families are invisible and because we don’t see them every day, we don’t realize how many children and parents are sleeping in their cars, tents and other places not meant for human habitation. We are so proud of the deep commitment and collaboration of all of our FSC members, FSC Family Access Points and our FSC Shelter Provider Network, who work to prevent, divert and house families in an equitable, coordinated and timely manner. | | | Thank you to the OC Fair Board of Directors! |  | The OC Fair Board of Directors donated 500 tickets to the FSC for families experiencing housing and homeless challenges! Those tickets were provided to our FSC Family Emergency Provider Network and our Access Points, so they could distribute to families they are working with. While in the midst of a housing crisis, this allows a family to connect with their Family Service Navigator and find something uplifting and joyful. Thank you, OC Fair Board of Directors! | | The Bungalows Affordable Housing for families coming to Costa Mesa! |  | Two of the FSC member agencies, HomeAid Orange County and Families Forward are coming together to build affordable housing in Orange County - for families! The Bungalows will bring eight units of affordable housing to families experiencing homelessness in Costa Mesa. This will be the first project in Orange County utilizing ADUs for family homelessness. It takes a village! | | | Family Care Center - Family Emergency Shelter 5 Year Anniversary | Mercy House’s, Family Care Center (FCC), celebrated its five-year anniversary of serving families in Orange County! FCC has played a critical role in emergency shelter and has been a dedicated and active member of the FSC. More than 1,300 people have walked through their doors since opening and all have been met with love and hope. Thank you also to HomeAid Orange County, another FSC member, for their support in the creation and development of the Family Care Center! |  | | | FSC Training Series for FSC Members |  | We are so excited to bring the following trainings to our FSC membership! These are all virtual and free! We thank the Kaiser Community Benefits Foundation, for their support in this work! They recognized the need for these trainings, and most importantly, they recognized that trainings are not one size fits all, and that working with families experiencing homelessness requires expertise and dedication! Here are the trainings we have coming up (members, be on the lookout for training details!) De-Escalation (6 hours, 2 sessions) Motivational Interviewing (3 hours, 1 session) Strategies for Problem Solving and Diversion (4 hours, 2 sessions) Diversion Implementation in Shelters (2 hours, 1 session) Vicarious Trauma and Self-Care (1 hour, 1 session)
| | FSC’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement receives an A+ from Mind OC / Be Well OC | The FSC has been a part of an incredible collaborative over the last year, with Mind OC, the nonprofit backbone of the Be Well OC movement in Orange County. Working with other leaders in the community in the Mind OC, ACES Aware Trauma-Informed Network, one of the incredible projects the FSC undertook, was the development of our Commitment Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement. We received an A+ from the Mind OC/Be Well OC on that effort! Thank you to Mind OC / Be Well OC and all of the collaborative and dynamic partners for all of the incredible work you are doing in the OC! | | |  | Just a few years ago, the OC family homeless response system was confusing, inequitable with little cooperation and collaboration.
