WM Supporting Vulnerable Households and Individuals Facing Financial Crisis

WM members and guests came together on the 4th July to consider the data, evidence and insight from the work of Turn2Us, a national charity that provides a grant search tool for individuals and organisations, benefits calculator and gendered poverty project collaboration. Analysis from Turn2Us data show on a national level that women are major users of their benefits calculator and 84% of the applications received are from those in employment……read more
 
Assessing Funding Applications Using an EDI Lens

How do funders ensure that they are being equitable, fair and inclusive in their grant making approach? The workshop was an opportunity for funders to reflect on current practice, hear about the experience and concerns of smaller organisations accessing funding programmes and consider improvements in reaching out to applicants, the application process, assessing and communicating decisions using an EDI lens. Heart of England Community Foundation: Happier, Healthier Lives Impact Report
 
Over Consulting was commissioned in 2021 to prepare a place-based analysis of the West Midlands and Warwickshire communities and evaluate the impact of the Foundation’s grant making from April 2017 - 20. The purpose was to better understand the communities the Foundation serves; use the intelligence to shape and prioritise their work; monitor progress against the Foundation’s mission and strategic aims; support conversations with wider stakeholders. Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust: Social Needs Review

On the 12th July at the members roundtable exchange, David Cole, provided a short presentation on the findings and recommendations of a commissioned social needs review from University of Birmingham/University of Nottingham in 2020. A comprehensive survey was undertaken that covered both service provision and sports facilities in the 4 key wards that make up Sutton Coldfield and also survey of households that received a 20% response rate over 2020-21. The data methodology focused on quality of life indicators and factors of wellbeing.
The summary document of the findings and recommendations will be published around August 2022 and available on the Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust website. A link to this will also be available on the WMFN website and next news update.

Turn2Us - Living Without 

Over the last decade, the consequences of austerity have pushed UK households into debt, food banks and homelessness. In a society which values compassion, empathy and dignity it is an affront to us all that millions of people are living in poverty. The prevalence of low paid jobs, high housing costs and an eroding welfare state has left the most vulnerable people in society living without the very basics. It is these basics that
separate the surviving from the thriving. The Living Without campaign highlighted
the true scale and impact of the appliance poverty problem. To read more

Eveson Trust: Herefordshire and Worcestershire Funders Fair 17th October 2022
Venue: Lyttelton Well Hall, Malvern


The Eveson Trust is sponsoring a Funders Fair and working in collaboration with Hereford City Council and Worcestershire Community Foundation to put on the event. The Fair is provisionally scheduled to run between 10.00am – 3.30 pm and will feature presentations by funders as well as funder stands. National funders such as the NLCF will be represented as well as more local funders. The event will be to charities through various networks and websites. Registration by charities to attend will be via Eventbrite.

The National Heritage Lottery Fund: The Heritage Innovation Fund  

The Heritage Innovation Fund is a pilot initiative for experimenters, collaborators and learners from across all parts of heritage, across the UK. We're looking for people who want to play a leading role in pioneering solutions for making the heritage workforce fit for the future.’

The National Lottery Community Fund is reviewing its funding strategy for the period up until 2030 and need your views and input. Participatory Grantmaking

Participatory grantmaking has been practiced for many years and is increasingly being explored, promoted, and strategically used by foundations and collaboratives around the world. While there is a growing body of literature and tools to help people wherever they are in their participatory journeys, there is also an interest in learning from others, sharing experiences and growing the practice together.
The Participatory Grantmakers community of practice aims to be this missing space for practitioners to access knowledge and connect with one another.
