Build Your Safety NET
During and after an emergency situation, neighbors can be a powerful source of help. In fact, after a disaster like an earthquake or fire most people are rescued by their neighbors, not firefighters or other emergency services. To tap into this powerful resource, we have Neighborhood Emergency Teams (NETs) made up of more than 2,000 Portlanders who have volunteered to be trained and provide help during emergencies.

How can you prepare for an emergency?

New Car-Free Bridge Connects SW Trails
The Red Electric Bridge is now completed and ready for use! The bridge provides people walking, biking, and otherwise rolling with a direct, car-free path between SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and SW Capitol Highway. The bridge was developed, designed, and constructed by the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) on behalf of Portland Parks & Recreation and is a critical part of the Red Electric Trail system.

“As we emerge and recover from the pandemic, it is exciting to see a new safe space open through such a gorgeous nature area. I’m proud of the work done by the staff at PBOT to design and construct another car-free bridge as we continue to build a more climate-resilient Portland,” said PBOT Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty.
