Dangerous conditions again, Wed 27 July
A cold front is crossing the state Tuesday, bringing a strong and gusty west to southwesterly change. A second cold front looks set to arrive at the end of the week.

BOM has issued warnings for Wednesday for the Coffs all the way down to Batemans coasts, with seas of 3 to 4 m plus swells of 3 to 4 m. Swells are very mixed, southerly, south easterly, easterly...even south westerly in some places. Check local conditions before going out.

For all those coasts on Wednesday, BOM is warning of dangerous rockfishing and boating conditions.

Check local forecasts to get the latest before you go out on the BOM website at http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml

Boaters on ALL coasts: still keep an eye out in estuaries and rivers - heavy rainfall continues to cause dirty water and numerous hidden hazards.

Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan on coming back. If the rock platform is wet ask yourself 'why is it wet?' then watch the ocean for waves and swells for at least 20 minutes. Always fish with a friend, wear proper rockfishing footwear, light warm high-visibility clothing, and wear a life jacket in case you get washed in. Never turn your back on the ocean.

Also check out the links and safety advice on BOM's dedicated rock-fishing weather page.

Whenever you fish

  • choose a safe spot
  • don't fish alone
  • wear non-slip shoes
  • wear a life jacket
  • never turn your back on the sea.
