Hi Everyone,
During the past week or so, I have tested a lot computers with hard drives that were failing or starting to fail. Sometimes I can rescue the entire system and copy it onto an SSD, including programs. Sometimes the drive is so far gone that I can't rescue any data.
Here's a short video I made about failing hard drives, bad sectors and one thing you can do to prevent losing data:

In short, if the drive has even one bad sector, it should be replaced sooner than later. If your computer is noticeably slower than it was before, getting it checked out would be a good thing to do.
Also, keep important data in more than one place. Just keeping it on an external hard drive is not a good idea. It should be on your computer AND on an external hard drive. The more places you have your important data, the better. But it should be in at least two places.
