BHA announced as Queensland peak body

Dear Friend of BHA,

Finally, we can announce that BHA Brisbane has been recognised by the Queensland Government as a peak representative body for the hard-of-hearing.

The designation is part of the Queensland Disability Peak and Representative Bodies – Inclusion Program, which will ensure BHA has a stronger voice in the sector and a broader reach in the community.

This is the announcement we've been hinting at in the last couple of emails. You can read more about BHA’s role here: https://bhabrisbane.org.au/about-us/state-peak-body/ and we'll keep you up to date as things progress in future newsletters

Dementia Awareness Month

September is Dementia Awareness Month and it's a timely opportunity to review if and how hearing loss may contribute to dementia. Our "Does hearing loss cause dementia?" article has been updated with the latest research and information to ensure you know where the science community stands on the issue.

Until next time.

Supporting people with hearing loss since 1946

The Brisbane branch of BHA was established in 1946 by members of the local community who were hard of hearing and couldn’t find the support they were looking for. BHA Brisbane maintains this strong philosophy of self-help and draws on the value of lived experience in all its services – from informal, volunteer-led support groups to comprehensive workplace training programs.

We are a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Taxation Office.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of our Patron
Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland
