The Emergence Team looks forward to welcoming our mentors back to PEI in August. This is a chance for client companies to work with a team of mentors that have extensive experience and contacts to accelerate their success. This team mentorship approach is customized to client companies, maps out a critical path to success and connects participants to key contacts through the Emergence Performance Network. Also, stay tuned for plans for Office Hours in the fall which features subject-matter expert presentations and one-to-one consultation opportunities for Emergence companies.

12th Annual BioInnovation Challenge application deadline - August 5th
The BioInnovation Challenge (BIC) showcases the best in local life sciences innovation. The goal is to elevate the abilities of new ventures and to offer a solid foundation for growth. The top prize is valued at $55,000. The application deadline is August 5th (more).

CASTL news
CASTL appoints Paul-Xavier Etter as Director of Technical Training (more). CASTL is now accepting applications for their next PEI Bioscience Reskilling Program that will begin in September. For program details, link (here).

NPC looking forward to NCN-NPC investor meeting in September
Natural Products Canada (NPC)'s highlighted a flurry of investments in their latest newsletter which sets the right tone for their upcoming investor meeting with Nutrition Capital Network on September 15th in Toronto, Canada's only investment event focused exclusively on natural nutrition and wellness.

Canadian bio-economy labour market information is now available via a new online portal. Leaders in diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility to be recognized through new IDEAL Bioscience Employer program.

AuNaturel Solutions online shop is now open
AuNaturel Solutions now offers online ordering of their Comfort n' ConfidenceTM prosthesis products which include a full prothesis, partial prosthesis and alpaca fleece. The innovative design features multiple layers; breathable, washable and customizable materials; and an easily moldable shape (shop here). Founder Simonne Cormier was a finalist in the Sensational Summer Pitchfest hosted by the PEI Women's Business Association (more).

Active AgriScience develops new product formula
Active AgriScience recently developed a new formula that enhances micronutrient absorption into plant tissue. This increases micronutrient utilization leading to healthier plants that are better equipped to reach their yield potential. It will be available in 2023 (more).

Bactana awarded its second SBIR phase one grant this year
Bactana has been awarded a grant from the USDA/SBIR to support a large-scale trial and in vitro assays under both academic and on-farm conditions. This non-dilutive funding will allow Bactana to advance its novel products to reduce antibiotic use in poultry production, prevent Salmonella contamination into the food supply, and allow more cost-efficient and sustainable poultry production (more).

CAT contributes to scientific publications
Center for Aquaculture Technologies discusses how to bring the pen to the tank without compromising fish disease-research strength in Fish Health Form (more). BD Manager Dr. Adriana Artiles co-authors article explaining how the application of a low-density genotyping panel and analysis of growth-related traits helped assess the population structure and diversity of six commercial shrimp stocks in Cuba (more). Chinova Bioworks wins Nutra-Ingredients-USA 2022 Start-up Award 
"This honor validates Chinova's drive to be at the forefront of mushroom research and using their inner qualities to change preservation within the food and beverage markets," said Natasha Dhayagude (more). Chinova is a semi-finalist in the Phase One 2022 CANIE Awards (more). Check out the "meet the founder" story (here). Chinova recently received a letter from the US FDA recognizing their ChiberTM Mushroom Fiber as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) (more).

Honibe launches its first ever commercial
Honibe's commercial's concept is around the "Alchemy of Honibe". They highlight how alchemy is about transformation. The bees transform pollen into honey. Honibe transforms honey into health supplements and you transform your wellness routine every day. They produced two versions. They call the commercials "This to That". View them (here).

Soricimed raises $200K
Soricimed Biopharma has raised a $200K follow-on investment from the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation as it continues research and development work on its treatment for pancreatic cancer (more).

SomaDetect received $700K+ funding to integrate AI
SomaDetect provides dairy farmers with access to data on milk quality, reproductive status, and herd health indicators from every cow at every milking. With funding of up to $707,873, the company will combine its sensors with artificial intelligence to deliver real-time milk quality information at the farm level (more).

Stepscan supports diabetes management 
Stepscan's technology can analyze underfoot pressures, identifying high peak plantar pressures. When used to assess diabetes patients, the system helps clinicians determine which patients are at high risk for diabetic foot ulcers (more).

Torigen Pharmaceuticals enters national distribution agreement
Torigen entered into a national distribution agreement with MWI Animal Health, a leading distributor of animal health products and services and a subsidiary of AmerisourceBergen. The agreement will expand access to Torigen's experimental autologous cancer vaccine for companion animals (more).

Triple Hair enters agreement with Pharmacy Solutions
Triple Hair Group has entered into a strategic licensing agreement with Pharmacy Solutions to compound Triple Hair’s hair growth products in the United States. Alopecia is an under-served global market of USD 7.8 billion in 2021, estimated to reach USD 14.2 billion in 2028. Triple Hair president says this is truly a game changer for the company to expand their market reach across the US (more).
