SSCV Athletes hard at work in the SSCV Clubhouse Gym

SSCV Community Building

Three days after wrapping up training on-snow at Copper in mid-June, the Women's U16 Group held an intensive five-day strength and conditioning/team-building project at Fish On Ranch in Wyoming.  The ranch, owned by friend of the club Dan Leever, provided ideal facilities to work hard physically in the gym and in the outdoors, as well as affording the added bonus of pro lessons in fishing on truly world class trout water, professionally led classes in archery, and also plenty of horseback riding in groups and individually.   The girls in attendance busted their butts in each of our three workouts per day, and set the bar high - critically so - as we launch into the strength and conditioning phase of our year.  We had a blast, and the group came away from the experience more tightly connected and with a better sense of expectations through the summer months.

Fundamental to taking full advantage of the shoulder seasons in Colorado to gain valuable, quality ski training, is also taking advantage of the relatively long, contiguous S&C block this approach demands.  That is, we are only as good in our 170 days on-snow as we can be in these few months away from it.  It is a relatively short period of time to prepare one's body for another demanding season.  To be successful as a U16 female ski racer takes tremendous commitment and the maturity to see that commitment through the highs and lows of a long year.  It is a highly competitive age group in Rocky/Central, and clearly more so on the national scene.  To win at the highest levels this year will demand a continued emphasis on courage, character, and commitment in our long term planning, and while going about our daily lives.

- Adam Chadbourne, Alpine Women's Head U16 Coach
