We have signed up as part of the North Somerset Community Lottery. Every £1 spent generates 50p for TTT, 10p to general fund for all groups, and 40p for prizes and admin fees. We will be promoting this as much as we can via social media and posters.
Business Litter Picking
We have worked with Viper to help them set up a scheme for their employees to adopt an area to keep litter free (they have chosen the Rhyne near the Viper offices); employees are given time each month to do this. We are approaching other Portishead businesses to see if they would like to set up similar schemes.
Hi Vis Jackets
May we ask that those who are no longer use their orange Hi Vis jackets might return them for use by others for when we are doing group events, please? The orange ones can be swapped for the yellow ones so that you still have a Hi Vis jacket to wear when out litter picking, if you wish to wear one.
Any volunteers who do not have a Hi Vis jacket, please email Penny on chair@turnthetideportishead.co.uk and we will arrange to deliver one to you.
Colourful plastic
This is a call out to those doing beach cleans. We want to make a display board highlighting the effects of ocean litter, and so would ask that you might collect any colourful plastic items that you find on beach cleans (not general street litter picks) so that we can use them to make the display board. I will put out a container for these on my driveway (36 Hillcrest Road BS20 8HP) labelled ‘TTT Plastic’ for you to drop off, or Penny can collect if that is easier (email chair@turnthetideportishead.co.uk).
September marks 5th birthday for TTT
We have suggested all meeting up for a lunchtime social event on Sunday 11th September and would like this to be a celebration of our 5th birthday.
We are working on a venue but will let you know as soon as we can.
Portishead in Bloom - SW competition
The judges visited Portishead on 18th and 27th July so many thanks to all who went out especially before these dates to clear any litter from the routes the judges would take.
Portishead Big Clean July
Portishead & District Horticultural Society are holding their Summer Show this weekend 30th and 31st July, which coincides with our Portishead Big Clean weekend.
So I’m sure that the organisers would appreciate any volunteers to help clear any litter at the end of each day; do wear your TTT Hi Vis jacket if you’d like to.
Woodland Regeneration
PTC own parcel of land off Slade Road - used to be Portishead Primary School - plan to regenerate back to woodland area, Play park with a Forest School. First step is litter picking the area. Penny will meet with Lin Sargent who is Project Manager (date to be arranged) to discuss. A very exciting community project and they hope to get site cleared over August holidays. Let us know if you’d like to be involved with this project by replying to this email or chair@turnthetideportishead.co.uk.
