WAY BACK WEDNESDAY

What popping to the shops looked like for Hills Shire residents in 1917!
Pictured here is the Excelsior Store, one of the earliest stores to open in Castle Hill. Located on the northwest corner of Old Northern Road and Cecil Avenue, it was built in 1917 by A. L. Claxson and managed by his two daughters. Selling general groceries, the store also stocked lollies, haberdashery items and some clothes. The store was renamed Midgley’s Excelsior Store in 1934 after the marriage of one of the Claxson sisters.
