Welcome to the August issue of the Cambridge Library Reader.
We have been toiling hard behind the scenes to bring you some exciting new services which we'll be launching in September. Next week we celebrate Children's Book Week - the staff always look forward to seeing what characters have inspired our junior readers' Book Week costumes. Stop by after school and check out the titles that made this year's shortlist.
Dr Kanthi Perera presents the 'Hopeful Voyager'
Wednesday, 14th September, 11 am to 12.30 pm

The Hopeful Voyager is one of the first books to offer practical understanding and help to those facing stressful and ongoing loss through mental ill health. Lacking clarity and defying resolution, this kind of 'ambiguous loss' results in a complicated grief.
Join Dr Kanthi Perera as she discusses her ground breaking work and offers practical solutions through the mental health journey to recovery.

Bookings are essential and can be made in person at the Library, via phone: 9383 8999, via email or book online via Eventbrite

Together We Read : the Australia wide book club

Together We Read, a digital book club connecting readers to the same ebook at the same time with no waitlists or holds, begins 6 September! The featured title is Happy Hour by Jacquie Byron

Growing older doesn't necessarily mean growing wiser.
Gin in one hand, paintbrush in the other, Franny Calderwood has turned her back on the world, or at least the world she used to love. Having lost her husband, Frank, in tragic circumstances three years earlier, 65-year-old Franny copes the only way she knows how: by removing herself completely from the life she had before. Franny lives a life of decadent seclusion, with only her two dogs, Whisky and Soda, a stuffed cat, cocktails and the memory of Frank for company.
Then the Salernos move in next door...

A story about one woman, two dogs and the family next door, Happy Hour is a hilarious and uplifting insight into grief, loss, true love and friendship.

Scribblers Festival - SILVER feather found!

The Scribbler's Festival is back for 2022! This year, Cambridge Library was lucky enough to receive a silver feather. The silver feather has now been found by one of our regular readers. Congratulations to Huiwen Shu who found the feather in the book 'Fish kid and the turtle torpedo' by Kylie Howarth. This book has been shortlisted for the W.A. Young Readers' Book Awards 2022 (Younger Readers Category).
Even though the silver feather has now been found, there's still an abundance of white feathers. Colour them in, post a pic to social media using the tag @scribblersfest and you could win an instant prize!
