All Scientists' Meeting Registration

The registration site for the LTER All Scientists' Meeting is now live! Learn more about the conference on the conference website, or head straight over to the registration site and line up your room. We have reserved the entire Asilomar conference center from September 19-23 and can accommodate over 600 LTER participants. This makes for a meeting that is both vibrant and intimate.

The "Generations" meeting theme points to the dedication of researchers who may commit entire careers to understanding the mechanisms at work in ecosystem science. It also signifies the changes in technology, culture, and perspective that emerge over long timescales.

The 2022 Request for Proposals for LTER Synthesis Working Groups is now open!

LTER synthesis working groups use the data produced at LTER sites (often together with data from other networks or sites) to tackle a wide variety of problems from comparative ecology to modeling to scaling.

LTER synthesis working groups organized through the LTER Network Office (LNO) fund travel for in-person meetings, as well as analytical, facilitation, logistical and communications support from the LNO team. In the 2022 competition, twe expect to award 2-4 synthesis working groups at a funding level of up to $110,000 for up to two years, plus 3 or 4 newer, short-term SPARC awards.

For more information, visit https://lternet.edu/synthesis/rfp-2022/

PROPOSALS ARE DUE OCTOBER 12, 2022 AT 5:00 P.M. PDT.

ASLO Amplifying Voices Webinar Series call for speakers

ALSO seeks speakers for their Amplifying Voices Webinar Series. The webinar series is designed to promote the scientific research of Early Career Researchers (ECR) (Advanced PhD or MSc student; Postdoctoral Fellow; Early Career Faculty) from historically excluded groups in our scientific society. It provides an opportunity to showcase the great work done from our global community, promote inclusion and foster belonging.

More information available at the webinar series' home page.

The next webinar in their series is on Thursday, July 28. Be sure to check it out—and remember to register to attend!

NEON and LTER: A long-term partnership for ecological observation

A number of NEON sites were deliberately colocated with established LTER sites across the country. These shared spaces add value for both networks and for the research community at large. Read more >>

It's not a trap: California MPAs lead to more lobster catches over time

Over a decade after the network's inception, researchers at the Santa Barbara Coastal LTER show that lobster spillover from Marine Protected Areas caused a 400% increase in lobster abundance just outside of the protected areas between 2008 and 2018. Read more >>
