       THIS IS A FLUKE!

OK, that is a play on words that is sadly too true... 29.5 inches and about 9 pounds for Ian, the first time fishing on Little Sister! This was on Saturday (07/23) and the sad part was that fluke did not have too many friends to add to the cooler. But we had a nice day and everyone went home with a bag of fillets (sea bass and fluke). On Sunday John and friends had some striped bass (including a 32 inch slot) and blues as well as some sea bass. It seems that everywhere we fish for stripers now there is a equal 1/3 chance that the next fish will be a short, a slot or "too big".
And "too big" was Steve's first fish of the morning, followed by several others (including a 30 inch slot bass)  in short order. Steve did not want to stress the 40+ inch bass by handling it for a photo so he just got his face close before the quick and healthy release. Then he put a hurt on the local bluefish population and we lost a few bucktails to some teeth.
While casting bucktails we also caught a blackfish, some scup and several sea bass. Fun fishing!

For upcoming open boat trips, next Tuesdays (08/02) Coxes Ledge is full. The inshore trip on Thursday (08/04 at 7am-noon) needs fishermen!
08/09 Coxes Ledge has openings as well as a few spots left for the 11th.
I will put out the whole August Open Boat Schedule in my next report.
