Laura Huckaba, a master gardener for many years, passed away on July 13th.  She played many roles over the years in service to our chapter.
She was a fervent supporter of the chapter's community outreach. She attended each educational event and supported 10-Minute University classes with PowerPoint projection. As technology changed and new equipment required learning, she always rose to the challenge.
Laura did whatever was needed. During a prolonged period when the Milwaukie Center's rear-screen projector was broken, the chapter's projector was used to show images from the front. The result of the mismatched equipment gave images a muddy appearance. Laura came to the rescue and brought a large projection screen from home for each presentation. When the 10-Minute U team decided to add sound amplification at SGF so that speakers do not lose their voice, Laura volunteered to select and procure portable sound equipment.
Laura was a committed and able volunteer. She was a valued member of the 10-Minute University team!
At a recent annual chapter event, she and her husband Larry contributed fresh corn for the chapter picnic. They harvested the corn the night before the picnic, assuring its freshness.  They brought large pots to cook the corn for everyone’s dinner that evening. While it was a very hot evening, in spite of the discomfort, they were so pleased to share such delicious food from their farm.

At Laura’s passing, Larry wanted this to be shared with MGs -
"Laura had a tender hearted compassion for animals and humans, especially  those who were in need. She adopted animals that were in mortal danger. She fed those in need. She nursed the sick and dying. She was the best human being I've ever known. I loved her more than my life itself. She is with me and always shall be” . Larry Huckaba,

There will be no services as per Laura's request.

A tribute is also due to Dee Linde, a master gardener and close friend who saw Laura through the progression of her disease and provided love and support during her decline.  A truer friend no one has ever known.
