A Black Communities Technical Housing Resources Centre
It is time to address the historical and ongoing inequity experienced by Black communities in the housing sector. The Centre, in collaboration with Black community organizations and with the support of CMHC and Nova Scotia Housing, is establishing a Black Communities Housing Technical Resources Centre (BCHC).

This organization will be owned and managed by organizations and individuals from Black communities across Canada. It will provide appropriate support, counselling, and expertise for Black communities seeking to grow their community housing stock.

The only path to setting up a successful BCHC is a community-driven approach, so every Black-led community organization interested in this project is welcome.

Join the action to achieve the right to housing for and by Black people!

The right tool for the job
Read the Centre's 2021-2022 report, The right tool for the job, online or by downloading the PDF version.

The Centre has continued its work to facilitate the quantitative development and qualitative evolution of community housing. Whether through the provision of funding or services, all regions and all segments of community housing have benefited from our intervention, our tools and this year’s $10 million allocation.

We are at the stage of our development where it is possible to evaluate the quality and relevance of the projects we have funded, the potential of the many partnerships we have established and the paths we can follow based on these experiences.

Change at the Centre's Board of Directors
The Centre is fortunate to have individuals with extensive experience in community housing on its Board of Directors. The work of these volunteers ensures the sound governance of the Centre and helps the team to better respond to the different realities of Canadian community housing.

Today, we would like to acknowledge the work and involvement of two of them who are leaving us and welcome a new member:
Jeff Morrison, who was the Secretary to the Board and Chair of our Allocations Committee, is leaving the community housing sector for the transportation sector. Until recently, he was Executive Director of the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association (CHRA).

Margaret Pfoh, in addition to serving as a Director, was a member of the Centre's Allocation Committee. She is the Executive Director of the Aboriginal Housing Management Association (AHMA) and has over 25 years of experience in community housing.
Jaimee Gaunce, a new recruit to our Board, is Director of Policy at Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS). Originally from the Pasqua First Nation in Saskatchewan, she will be a great asset to the Centre as we deepen our understanding of and connections to the Aboriginal housing sector.
The Centre supports greener community housing by funding 29 projects across the country!
The Centre is pleased to announce its support for 29 green projects across Canada through its Green Kickstarter Fund. In total, over $260,000 will be distributed to green housing initiatives across the country.

Community housing, by transforming its construction methods, has the opportunity to become a leader in the development of new standards to support the green transition. The Centre is proud to be a catalyst for the sector's transformation in this critical transition for our society.
