Stop the Bleeding: ANEEJ Parleys AFRODAD on Debt Management in Africa
Ahead of the High level political and expert Africa Conference on Debt and Development (AfCoDDII) scheduled to hold in Linlongwe, Malawi from 24th -26th August 2022, ANEEJ convened a National conference in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday, August 18, 2022 to discuss country specific debt and development architecture. The event was held in collaboration with the African Forum on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) Harare, Zimbabwe. ANEEJ, International Lawyers Project Organise Workshop on UK Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions (UKGACS)
The ANEEJ Centre for the Study of Corruption in partnership with the International Lawyers Project organized an online workshop on the UK Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions (UKGACS) on the 18th of August, 2022. The training examined the foreign policy tools and their effectiveness in the fight against corruption within the collapsing government enforcement institutions and processes. The organisers, the Executive Director, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev David Ugolor and Maximo Cremades-Hashemi, Anti-Corruption Sanctions Legal Officer of the International Lawyers Project said the workshop was aimed at equipping Nigerian CSOs with information and the right skills to undertake civil actions on the issue.
At the end of the training, the International Lawyers Project (ILP) team urged participants to contact them directly or through ANEEJ should they require further information or expertise on the subject pro-bono as it constitute part of their mandate.

Edo State FOI law: ANEEJ Meets with Leadership of Ministry of Communication and Orientation in Benin City
On the 8th of August, 2022, ANEEJ delegation led by the Executive Director, Rev David Ugolor paid an advocacy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Andrew Adaze Emwanta ESQ to discuss the possibility of having the FOI law in Edo State. The ANEEJ delegation presented a copy of the draft Edo State FOI law prepared by Edo State Ministry of Justice during the first tenure of the current administration. The Commissioner welcomed the ANEEJ team and emphasized that the Edo State government has been proactively disclosing information through various media. He also spoke about other state-owned initiatives to increase public access to information such as Edo Media Series Platform. He then promised to consult with other stakeholders within the Edo State government to see how the draft bill can be taken forward.

Bridging Gap between CSOs and Private Sector to Address Corruption in Nigeria
The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ, has called for collaboration between Civil Society Organisation and members of the organised private sector in the fight against corruption, so as to strengthen governance and deliver development to citizens. The call was made at a two-day workshop held on the 4th and 5th of August, 2022 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of its SCALE project, currently being implemented by palladium and sponsored by USAID. Participants were draws from staff of Private sector, Host oil producing community groups, OGP National Secretariat, CSOs including Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), and Journalists within the Niger Delta States. The intention was to galvanize participants’ understanding on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Coalition Guide for anti-corruption advocacy and improve transparency and accountability. ANEEJ Parleys NUJ on Edo State FOI Law
As part of the implementation of Gatefield's #Keepitopen project, ANEEJ met with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Edo State chapter to build partnership to advance the passage of FOI law in Edo state. The meeting was held at the NUJ Press centre, Benin City on August 12, 2022 and Leo Atakpu, ANEEJ's Deputy Executive Director, led ANEEJ team of Three. The Chairman of NUJ Mr. Festus Alenkhe, and other EXCO members were present to receive ANEEJ's team. At the end of the meeting, both organisations agreed to collaborate to advance ANEEJ's advocacy issue. They also had understanding on the next step.
