Summer’s End Update

What a wild month! We closed up shop the last full week of August and all headed off in different directions for some R&R. It’s easy for us to spend so much time performing maintenance on typewriters that we can easily forget we need some rejuvenation ourselves. We’re back at it though, with new machines entering the showroom every day and many new clients coming in for restoration and service.

No typewriters were harmed in the taking of this photo! Philly Typewriter cannot advise taking your typewriter kayaking, but if you do, do so at your own risk! Check out our social media for the story behind this picture!

East Passyunk Car Show 2022

Before our vacation, we setup for The East Passyunk Car Show and Street Festival! Many people don’t realize that typewriter designs pulled heavily from the automobiles of the time. We had some fun setting up different machines along the sidewalk and matching them to era specific cars! We had a blast talking to car owners about their own mechanical work and discussing mutual efforts to preserve both of these amazing machines.

It may still be hot out, but fall is just around the corner with plenty more events on the ave to look forward to! Stay tuned!

Upcoming Events

A Fixing Frenzy

On September 8th, Philly Typewriter and the Philly Fixer’s Guild are teaming up for the first Repair Fair after 2 years. While we specialize in typewriter repairs and restoration, the guild educates the community on a broader scope of mechanical repair and self-efficiency. Modern technology is not designed for the average person to easily repair themselves; the guild sees a different world, one where anyone can learn basic repairs. Whether you’re young, old, rich, or poor, they want to put the power back into your hands with your machines and tech.

Philly Typewriter is proud to join Ben Davis (a past Philly Typewriter’s apprentice) and his guild at NextFab, a workman’s wonderland, to teach you how to provide basic repair and maintenance of your typewriter and other machines. Make sure to take advantage of this explosion of knowledge and know-how all in one space and stop by!

See Philly Typewriter at the Maker’s Market

As the weather begins to cool, with autumn rains and pumpkin spice in the air, the 37th Annual Fall for the Arts Festival is coming to Chestnut Hill!

On September 25th, Philly Typewriter has the pleasure of joining other artisans and guild masters at the Maker’s Market. In the midst of master potters and weavers, our tables will be set up with a range of specialty machines and typewriters to play on.

Never used a typewriter? Have questions about that Smith-Corona you’ve been dreaming about for years? Our expert mechanics, Bryan and Bill, will be on hand to satisfy your curiosities!

As always, thank you so much for your continued support of Philly Typewriter. It really means the world to us. We hope to see you in the shop soon!
