Investing In Our Neighborhoods
Hello Toledo and Happy Wednesday,
I saw in my Facebook memories this week that we launched the first-ever Wednesdays With Wade updates to the community in 2017. We have been going strong ever since! Thank you for reading our updates each week these last five years.
Last weekend, my wife Sarah and I, and about 70,000 friends, enjoyed the 2022 Jeep Fest. It was amazing to see so many Jeeps, Jeep enthusiasts, Toledoans, and so many visitors in the Glass City for the event. Home of the Jeep since 1941,Toledo is the perfect location for such a celebration! Many thanks to all of the planners, volunteers (Over 400!) sponsors, participants, and attendees who made Jeep Fest 2022 such a great success.
I was pleased to be able to launch the Lagrange neighborhood Save Our Community team this week. They are a great group of people from the neighborhood who will be devoting all of their time to interrupting the violence and improving relationships. As planned, this neighborhood is the second to go live after the Junction/Englewood neighborhood. In the next three months, we should be fully operational in the third and final SOC neighborhood in East Toledo.
I am very pleased to see the new energy and renewed commitment to reducing gun violence from the Safety Department. Our homicide and shooting numbers this year have improved over last year, and we want to keep it that way. We continue to take an “all hands on deck” approach to reducing violence. Quality policing, specialized police operations, SOC, the Safety Department, the Clean Toledo Team, Neighborhood investments, and mediation services are all contributing to the improvement.
