We’re officially 17 days away from Sourcegraph Merge and there’s a lot of information to cover before we hop on our flights and meet up in Cancun, Mexico.
This special edition of The Git Down includes important info about what to expect and a few actions required by teammates. Be sure to read the whole issue so you don’t miss a thing!
If you’re feeling a little nervous about meeting a bunch of new people IRL for the first time in a long time, you’re not alone! We thought we’d help you dust off your small talk skills with these conversation starters.
- What’s a life hack everyone should adopt?
- What was your first job? - What’s your first pick on a veggie platter? - What was the first record, tape, or CD you owned? - Who is the best mystical holiday character and why is it the Easter Bunny? - Where were you when you heard Kim and Pete broke up? - Would you rather have more time or more money? - If you could teach a college course on any subject, what would it be? - If you were a fruit/vegetable, what would you be and why? - What’s your least favorite weather? - Why did the chicken cross the road? - Name a movie you could watch again and again. (Say something other than National Treasure, Eric, we dare you.)
Submit your questions for Merge guests
We’re thrilled to announce that Sarah Wang, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, and Jason Warner, former CTO of GitHub and Managing Director at Redpoint Ventures, will join our team for virtual fireside chats during Merge.
Please take a few minutes today to pre-submit your questions for Sarah and Jason.
To inspire your questions, give the next episode of the Sourcegraph podcast a listen. Beyang talks with Jason about his storied career, including the lessons he learned at Enron, Heroku, and GitHub. They cover a lot including, the importance of being curious, the power of a clear and compelling vision executed by a focused team, and how individual agency, focused on a common mission, can move mountains.
Let’s face it, it may have seemed like a close race on the surface, but behind the scenes, there was a fierce campaign to get this movie to the winning spot for Merge movie night. We have Eric Fritz to thank for this cinematic experience, so be sure to brush up on your favorite Nicholas Cage quotes before heading to Cancun.
Sign up to host a lunch & learn session
Calling all teammates who have unique skills. We’re looking for topic submissions for the lunch & learn sessions during Merge.
Want to teach teammates the basics of coding? Are you a pro at creating sales pitches that woo customers? Are you a seasoned public speaker who can coach others? We want to hear from you!
When traveling to Mexico, all tourists coming from a NO VISA required country need to process an FMM (Forma Migratoria Multiple) in order to enter the country. Your airline should give this to you either before departing or upon arrivial in Mexico.
❗IMPORTANT NOTICE:❗The immigration officer will break off a part of the FMM when you come into Mexico. You must hold on to this stub from the FMM because you will need to turn it in once you leave Mexico. Sourcegraph will not cover the cost of replacing this slip.
There will be plenty of moments at Sourcegraph Merge that you won’t want to miss. Have a pic/video with your team? Please share it in the newly created #sourcegram channel in Slack. If sharing pictures online, remember to celebrate our culture, use your best judgment, and ask your teammates for permission before sharing it externally. When in doubt, reach out to us!
- Bring a credit/debit card - All teammates must bring a personal card - you can't put down your Airbase card for incidentals.
- Be aware of additional fees - Some restaurants at the hotel and activities require additional fees. You can put your $200 credit toward these, but expenses over this limit will not be reimbursable.
- Plan for transportation - Transportation to/from the airport is provided. Don't book your own transportation, it won't be reimbursable. If you are extending your trip, transportation to your extended stay hotel OR the airport is reimbursable, but not both. If you are extending your stay at the Fairmont Mayakoba past 9/15 you will need to book your own transportation and submit for reimbursement. Please make sure you've included whether you're extending your stay at the Fairmont Mayakoba in your registration form on the Merge website.
