Sarah Vogel Presentation Hosted at Stutsman County Courthouse
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The public is invited to "The Farmer's Lawyer," a presentation by Sarah Vogel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Stutsman County Courthouse State Historic Site, 504 Third Ave. SE, Jamestown. The event is free and open to the public.
The presentation by Vogel, an author and former North Dakota commissioner of agriculture, will be based on her book "The Farmer's Lawyer: The North Dakota Nine and the Fight to Save the Family Farm." The book documents the experiences of Vogel as a young lawyer, undertaking a historic legal battle to stop the federal government from foreclosing on thousands of family farmers during the 1980s farm crisis. Vogel wrote the memoir working from her notes, drafts, and other documents now preserved in the North Dakota State Archives.
Vogel will be available to sign books following the presentation.
Built in 1883, the historic Stutsman County Courthouse in Jamestown is home to a unique hands-on exhibit about civics and local government. It is North Dakota's oldest surviving courthouse and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
