Better Late than Never!

We’re a bit late with this month's newsletter due to some exciting things happening behind the scenes at the Canadian Carp Society. Always changing and being updated, it takes quite a bit of work to keep things going around here.

Many people wonder why there is a membership fee to be a part of the Canadian Carp Society and can’t quite see the benefits of being a member.

This isn’t just a group where you pay your annual fee and get access to a forum. There is much more that goes on behind the scenes. What goes out to our public social media channels such as Instagram and Facebook is just a small glimpse of what is actually going on.

The First Canadian Carp Society In-Person Social Event

We weren’t sure if it would happen this year, but we have finally been able to secure a venue for our first-ever Canadian Carp Society Social Event. Many Carp Anglers here in Canada are the lone wolf type. Out on our own, blazing new trails and scouting out new secret waters in hopes of finding those elusive 30 and 40-lb carp. One of our favourite aspects of Carp Angling is that it can also be an enjoyable social activity. Once in a while, as “Lone Wolf” anglers, we enjoy getting together with the entire pack to share ideas and enjoy some space on the bank. Sometimes we almost feel like outcasts while out on our own, always being approached by the public, being asked questions such as: Why are you fishing for carp? Do you eat them? What’s that you’re using as bait? It’s refreshing to get together with like-minded carp anglers who share the same thoughts and respect for this great resource we have on our doorstep.

If you are a member and want more information, follow the “Official Announcements” group on the Canadian Carp Society Social Platform.

If you’re not a member and this seems like something you’d be interested in, then you better sign up soon! Tickets to the event are limited and go on sale on August 20, 2022, at noon.

A Glimpse Inside the CCS

Popular Threads in the Community

What Materials Do You Use to Tie Your Rigs?

An engaging post by Chris Kazmir with interesting feedback from members on what specific materials they use to tie their carp fishing rigs. It’s amazing just how many products there are on the market, and this thread gives an overview of how different anglers use all sorts of different materials.

Who has carp friends that they can call anytime? Day or night, who you can call if you need a hand, to come weigh a fish, take a picture?? Do you have a "mate" that's carpy???

Did you know the CCS Platform also has a Poll option? A great poll by Fernando Sousa asks if you have any friends that are as carpy as you? It’s rare here in Canada to have a carpy friend who lives within driving distance to get together regularly on the bank. We have so much space and water to fish here in Canada it can be rare that we get together with other like-minded anglers.

What’s in Your Spod Mix?

A question posted by Dan Patteson in the “Bait Group.” It’s interesting to see how different each angler is and what bait they use. I think most Canadian anglers have their own special homemade mixes that they see great success with on the bank. It’s nice to have a resource where other anglers can share their knowledge rather than just relying on the same big youtube channels and brands to educate other anglers.

If you are a CCS Member and haven’t joined any groups. Be sure to check out the Groups Tab and sign up to any that you’re interested in to receive notifications on new posts. There are special groups for Bait, Gear, Rigs, Buy & Sell, Official Announcements and more.

CCS Challenge Series

With 32 participants this year, the Challenge Series is taking slightly longer to wrap up than last year. There have been some epic matches fished, and conditions are starting to challenge anglers. From the great conditions in spring to the challenge of heat and summer storms, the anglers approaching the finals have put in a ton of work to get where they are.

We are currently organizing the Semi Final matches between; LP Lortie vs Julien Tremblay and Chad Normand vs Alexandre Roy. Amazing that three of our four semi-finalists are from Quebec! Could the finals be a battle of Quebec!? We are excited to find out.

Summer SSF Event Recap

Although the Summer SSF event conditions were quite challenging across Canada, we still saw some decent weights on the leaderboards. There was a lot of movement up and down the leaderboards throughout the event, and the winning teams came down to the last day.

Team Leaderboard:

  1. Team of 1000 Carp - 75.5 lbs
  2. Whales with Scales - 69 lbs
  3. Team Savage - 65 lbs

Solo Leaderboard:

  1. Ryan Ginter - 88 lbs
  2. Derek Ross - 80 lbs
  3. John Bulmer - 79.5 lbs

Prizes for the Summer SSF Event have been sent out, be sure to let us know with a quick post in the community when they arrive! We look forward to the FALL SSF Event, which will undoubtedly see some bigger fish and numbers be submitted.

URC Latest

After our spring flurry of many additions to the 30lb + fish records, things slowed as the weather warmed up. It has been a grind for many anglers to find those bigger fish in the summer months. It makes you think, where do they go? One of the great aspects of carp angling is how their behaviours and habits change throughout the seasons. It adds an extra challenge to explore new areas and see if we as anglers can figure out those next-level tactics to succeed on the bank.

A recent session for Ben Thomas did just that. Exploring new areas and getting together with fellow CCS Members ended with an epic result. Ben was able to land this stunning 36lb + Common. Well done Ben!

Latest Addition to the Talking Carp Magazine

Did you know CCS Member John Bulmer has been writing a series of articles for the Online Magazine Talking Carp? John wrote a detailed piece about the Canadian Carp Society in this month's edition. Thank you John! If you haven’t had a chance to read it, we highly recommend checking it out.
