Poulsbo Sons of Norway 2-44 - President's Message
Hej all,
Is it Fall already? Time to start a new school year and new fall clothes.  Hey, how about finding some new friends down at the lodge to work with? I tell folks we don’t have 1,000 volunteer positions to give out so it’s wise to act quickly so you can get involved, meet new people, make the lodge as vibrant and alive as it can be. We will have a volunteer fair on the 27th to ask questions of a bunch of us (including me!) to see what fits for you. Hope to see you there.
We love that you are a part of the lodge!
Fred vaere med deg,
Paul Anunson
Kort om Kultur
Come to the September Lodge meeting, Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00pm and learn about Traditional Norwegian Lutheranism in Poulsbo.

Visiting Norway? Here is some advice on how to behave in Norway:
As when traveling anywhere in the world, you may find some of the social norms in Norway are different than what you are used to.  Here are some tips that will help you make the most of your trip to Norway:
  1. Don’t get too close! Norwegians really value their personal space. Even when you’re standing in line, try to stay at least an arm’s length away from others.
  2. Avoid too much eye contact. Otherwise, you will make your newfound Norwegian friends uncomfortable. A good rule of thumb is to use the same amount of eye contact as the person who you are speaking to does.
  3. Be punctual. If you are a few minutes late, it’s forgivable, especially if you call ahead to let the host/hostess know. To arrive any later than that is considered extremely rude.
  4. Never compare Norway unfavorably to Sweden—especially when it comes to winter sports!  Norway was the country with the most medals in the last Winter Olympics, after all.
  5. Notice your surroundings. Norwegians are understandably proud of their stunning landscape, and appreciate it when visitors admire it, too.
Visste Du?
(Did you know?)
Lest we forgetSEPTEMBER was an important month several times during World War II.  On SEPTEMBER 1, 1939 Nazi Germany attacked Poland and the war began.  Germany invaded Norway on April 9, 1940 occupying major Norwegian ports from Oslo west and north to Narvik and deploying the first ever parachute battalion used in warfare.  Beginning in SEPTEMBER of 1940 the United States provided significant military supplies and other assistance to allies even though we did not officially enter the war until December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked.  On SEPTEMBER 2, 1945 World War II officially ended with the surrender of Japan aboard the USS Missouri.

Once again our wonderful lodge members have answered the call and gone beyond.  On August 6th a wedding was scheduled in the Marine Room.  This wedding had been planned for months and months down to the last detail and included a Taste of Norway catered meal.  The day before and the morning of this beautiful event covid once again raised its ugly head and tried to ruin the fun. Several of the key cooks, servers and dishwashers scheduled to work the event tested positive for that nasty fun spoiler.  Urgent calls went out and our lodge members immediately responded.  The second team came to the rescue finishing the dinner and serving with the expertise we've always been known for.  I don't think most of the guests were even aware of the emergency that had been avoided!!  THANK YOU to everyone who answered the call.  You are all heros and you saved the day!
