Join David Livingstone Birthplace for My Own Scottish Flower Garden - a new series of workshops facilitated by artist Sophie Minervini.
We will explore our local and native plant life throughout the David Livingstone Birthplace grounds, promoting curiosity and connection with our natural world. Supported by ‘Grow Wild’ - the national outreach programme of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
All workshops are free to attend.
Designed for 5 - 14 year olds.

Workshop 1: Seed Head & Drawing Workshop

13:00-15:00
In this free workshop, we will collect seeds and document the flowers we see through the David Livingstone Birthplace grounds.
We will journey through the grounds and document the plant life we see. Is it invasive? Is it native? How does this plant spread it seeds? We will then draw our findings using inspiration from the plant life.
These artworks will then be used in a final artistic output for the project.

Workshop 2: Seed Bomb Workshop

13:00-15:00
In this free workshop, we will explore seed bombs — balls of compost, clay, and flower seeds squeezed together and left to dry in the sun.
Each participant can make their own seed bomb to take home and plant in a garden or plant pot.
We will share knowledge about native Scottish flowers and explore the future of plat life in Scotland.

Workshop 3: Natural Watercolours Workshop
In this free workshop, we will make natural paints using Scottish plants and flowers grown and foraged within the David Livingstone Birthplace grounds.
These can then be used to create beautiful artworks to be displayed.
