Dear friends,

We hope you’ve had a restful summer and have been able to take time out in nature. The extreme weather in the UK and around the world is a reminder though of just how urgently we need to respond. This special edition of Eco Church Connect contains opportunities to do so, whether in prayer, campaigning with others, or visiting one of our partner sites in Wales.

As we come to the Season of Creation, we really hope you can join us for our next lunchtime prayer gathering on 22 September, ahead of Great Big Green Week. We also have news of a couple of other A Rocha UK events which we hope will inspire you to enjoy and protect nature. We will be joined by Wildlife & Countryside Link to talk about nature being accessible for everyone and Green Alliance to share about the Warm this Winter campaign, addressing the climate and cost of living crises.

We hope you can come along to some of our events - please share the details widely with your churches and communities. Further information and registration links are provided below.

Every blessing,

The Eco Church team

Eco Church Prayer Forum on Thursday 22 September, 12noon - 1pm [online]

Join us for our third prayer gathering to connect with the wider Eco Church community, and to reflect, share, and pray together.

We will meet together in breakout groups to connect and pray with others in the EC community – for the work of caring for creation in our churches and for each other. Feel free to share any prayer requests for your EC journey in your groups.

This will be an informal gathering, and we are piloting meeting at lunchtime this time. All are welcome, whether you are completely new to Eco Church or have been with us for some time.

This will be our final prayer gathering of 2022, with dates to follow for next year’s gatherings in due course.

‘Nature for Everyone’ Campaign Takeaway on Tuesday 13 September, 7:30 - 8:30pm [online]

It’s really important to A Rocha UK that everyone - wherever they live, whatever their background, and whatever their income - can access nature. Special guest speaker, Matt Browne, Head of Policy & Advocacy at Wildlife & Countryside Link, will talk about why nature is for everyone and we’ll take campaign action together. Find out more and register to attend here

Campaigning on the climate and cost of living on Thursday 29 September,
7:30 - 8:30pm [online]

In the midst of a cost of living crisis, with energy prices set to increase even further and some UK politicians urging more fossil fuel expansion, it’s vital that we tackle poverty in the UK in a way that addresses accelerating climate change without exacerbating the cost of living crisis. Come along to hear from Green Alliance about the new campaign, Warm this Winter. Find out more and register to attend here

St Madoc’s Act for Nature Day on Thursday 13 October, 10am - 2pm
[in person]

Join A Rocha UK for our first ever ‘Act for Nature day’ in Wales at one of our Partner in Action sites - St Madoc’s Centre, Llanmadoc, Gower.

Open to churches and local people, it’s an opportunity to learn more about nature and get up close and personal with it. We’ll take a walk with a knowledgeable ecologist, then head back to the centre for some hands-on activities, such as pond dipping and crafts with nature, as well as take campaigning action together.

It is free to attend but please let us know you are coming by registering here, where you can also find out further information about the event.
