U10 Lightning Carnival
Thank you to all of the volunteers who have assisted in the successful running of our U8/U9 Lightning Carnival on Sunday August 7th and our U10 Lightning Carnival On Sunday August 14th. Our U8, U9 and U10 teams enjoyed finishing the season with a carnival at home. We've also had literally thousands of visitors to our club over the past 2 weekends and so many comments about how much they have enjoyed our hospitality and what great facilities we have.
Our canteen crew have been tremendous - thank you, and we have raised significant funds for our club.
Congratulations to our U10 Girls - winners of their division in the Lightning Carnival last Sunday. A terrific achievement and a great way to finish the season.

Hosting U12 Finals this weekend - volunteers needed
We will be hosting the following finals this Sunday and need as much volunteer support as possible. Just an hour of your time, especially for set and pack up, is all we need. Please come down from 7.30am to lend a hand.

End of year tasks
Here is a quick checklist for volunteers for some of the tasks we will require before we all finish the season and look towards 2023:
  • Presentations – arrangements. Please note your date and time from Team Managers. We will be providing pies and hotdogs for the players and a drink, food and drinks available for parents and siblings from the canteen.
  • Trophies and certificates – We’re arranging 3 trophies and 1 coach award to present at U11+ presentations.
  • Team photos – We’re arranging any ordered photos to be distributed at presentation night.
  • Jumper collection – Team Managers will be in contact re the return of player jumpers - generally on presentation night if not before. Please make sure they are clean.
  • Team manager kit bag collection – team managers to sort bag and return to storage room.
  • Trainer first aid bag collection – trainers to sort and restock bag from supplies in storeroom and return.
  • Coaches kits – coaches to sort and organise bins, then send  a list of all requirements for 2023 to Fitzy.
  • Lost property - we have over 50 drink bottles, mouth guards, jackets, footy boots, runners in our lost property tub that we will have out on display at the club on Sunday. If you are missing anything, come and take a look.
  • AGM - date TBC - start thinking about joining our team in 2023. We would especially love to see parents from our younger teams getting involved to ensure our club has a strong future.
  • Boot Donation - if your boots are still in great shape but not likely to fit you next season, please consider donating them to our boot swap tub. Likewise with footy shorts that no longer fit. just drop them off Sunday and we will find them a good home next year.
Alliance Teams 2023
We have had wonderful success with our alliance teams with South Melbourne Districts Junior Football Club and St Kilda City Football Club this season and have recently met with all clubs involved. Our initial planning for season 2023 is that all clubs would like to continue. Alliances with our neighbouring clubs ensure that players have the opportunity to play footy at the level that best suits their ability each week, which in turn ensures player satisfaction and retention.
We will be assessing numbers in our age groups in the coming weeks and will be sending out information to each age group re season 2023.

Health and Wellbeing Support for our older players
We are committed to ensuring that all players feel safe, supported, connected and above all enjoy their experience at our club, and our alliance clubs.
In the past week our U17.5 Port South Boys have participated in a session with 'Tomorrow Man' - Tomorrow Man is about disrupting outdated male stereotypes that can be destructive to team and club culture. Participants build resilience and self-confidence thus improving morale and team cohesion, strengthening the club’s culture and performance. The session was especially poignant with the transition from Junior to Senior footy that the boys will make in the next few years.
Our 18 Port South Girls participated in a mindfullness workshop with Holly Bailey from 'Play like a Girl' where players are taught how to prepare well off-field so that they can play to their full potential when it counts. Key message is that playing like a girl in sport, work and life is your ultimate power move.

Let's hit the season finish line on a high - we would love to see you out at finals this weekend cheering on our teams or down at Murphy's over the next two weekends lending a hand to ensure we maximise the opportunity to host finals at our grounds.

We have a committee meeting tonight from 7pm, upstairs at the Limerick Arms Hotel. Come along and see what's involved and have a chat to some of our current committee members to see if it is something you could do to support our club.

Thank you!
