Knowledge gains...

Hey folks 👋 this week I'm dipping into my library of thoughts (there are nearly 500 now on the blog!) to share 3 that I feel can help you learn new skills this week and help in your daily workflow.

I believe you'll find at least something here that might help you in the week ahead or give you something to ponder on at the very least.

Enjoy, and of course, find more on the blog as always

Also, not forgetting the usual dose of weird, wonderful and what I hope is helpful content from the rest of planet earth in my curated roundup.
The big thought

🖥️ Grow those tech skills: how to make the most of Slack and Microsoft Teams playbook

This is a two-part series which I developed specifically for my friends in the world of workplace learning and performance. Yet, it can be picked up by anyone to learn some new tricks and implement them to increase productivity in any field of work.

I update these often with new releases from both tools, so make sure to return every once in a while for the latest and greatest tips.

Check out the Slack playbook or the MS Teams one to learn more.

🧠 Fresh thinking and new ideas for engagement

My ever-popular article still going strong years later, aptly named "Out of the classroom experiences and other cool things to try for learning" was one of my very early thoughts in the cycle of my writing.

The funny thing is that most of it still rings true all this time later. Here, you'll find a list of ideas to experiment with in your own learning experience design.

🤳 The DIY guide to video creation

Who says you need an expensive and fancy filming crew to create engaging videos?

I find too many of us forget that we walk around with one of the best filming devices in our pockets. A lot of us don't need slick Hollywood productions for what we want to achieve.

Being a tech geek, I use a lot of filming and editing software, so I decided to put together this beginner's guide to shooting and editing videos just with your phone and free software!

Till next time, folks.

Content that has caught my attention and might interest you too.

🤔 A great post from the team at Filtered, which I picked up on more daily doom scrolling adventures. The chaos of content curation is something that I've been thinking about and also talking about quite a bit on recent podcast appearances.

I'll be sharing some of my own thoughts on how making sense of good content curation can be a game changer in the coming months. But, this piece is so good at talking about this problem and potential ways to fix this.

I love nothing more than an article that provides some actions to implement vs the usual captain obvious ones, this is one of the good ones you want to check out.

💡 Amazon is coming! Yes, apparently it's true. That big old tech company is not satisfied with groceries, electronics nor cloud computing. They want part of the education and workplace learning pie too. This article shows Amazon's attempt at building a learning marketplace with their own content and from external suppliers too.

👏 I'm cheating here as this features me, but still felt worth sharing! In this 60-second video from a recent episode of the L&D Disrupt podcast.

I jumped on to talk about my approach to skill development and being adaptable for lifelong employability with the three E's framework. Hope this brings value to many of you.

One more thing...

Navigating the future skills demand

In this video, we explore the digital skills crisis and why building our digital mindset, and skills will enable lifelong employability.

BTW, I've got loads more explainer videos over at my YouTube channel aka the visual thoughts library. Drop by for more content like this.

“Many of us have bought into the cliché “pursue your passion”. For many, this is terrible advice.

In your 20’s, you may not really know what your best skills and opportunities are. It’s much better to pursue learning, personal discipline and growth. And to seek out connections with people across the planet.

For a while, it’s just fine to follow and support someone else’s dream. In so doing, you will be building valuable relationships, valuable knowledge. And at some point, your passion will come + whisper in your ear “I’m ready”.
