Sunday, August 21
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Virtual Event
Author Rita Gabis comes from a family of Eastern European Jews and Lithuanian Catholics. She was close to her Catholic grandfather as a child, but as an adult, she discovered an unthinkable dimension to her family story: from 1941 to 1943, her grandfather had been the chief of police under Gestapo leadership in the Lithuanian town of Svencionys. Gabis’ exploration into this truth of who her grandfather was and what he had done resulted in her memoir, A Guest at the Shooter’s Banquet.

Streams, Tunnels, Dams… Oh My! Getting Water to NYC
Saturday, August 20
10:30 AM
39 Battery Place
New York City could not have grown into a great metropolis without its historic and efficient water-supply system. Starting at the watersheds in upstate New York, we will follow the flow through streams, tunnels, dams, and reservoirs to learn how these gravity systems deliver clean and safe drinking water to the city. Then, inspired by our water supply system, we will play Water Works, a fun card game where the objective is to be the first to build a completely leak-free pipeline!
